Navigating Mexicali
Checking out my route through Mexicali this coming Tuesday, heard about construction on the highway going to San Felipe, and an alternate route along
Av.Franchesco Madero to Calzada Benito Juarez. Anyone know about this construction? It's supposed to be an overpass. It's always been hectic going
through town, and it looks like it's a left turn pretty quickly after the border crossing to take. I hate the thought of missing the road and
wandering around trying to find my way out. Is the construction area worth avoiding? Thanks for any help.

I was through there a week ago Tuesday and agree, it is no big deal. Just don't be near that area at quitting time. The problem area is the
intersection where the Walmart is.

Mexicali - east
I have pretty good route directions using the Mexicali east border crossing heading to San Felipe if you'd want to give it a go.

Headed north yesterday (Sunday) afternoon and had the longest wait I have ever had at the east border crossing 1 1/2 hours - 1 hour on the highway
and 1/2 inside th facility. Actually, traffic moved pretty good considering the number of vehicles. Lots of streets with up to 1 foot of water due
to the days rainstorms. Expect rain next coule days so if you're going thru Mexicali, watch for the big puddles.

And in the San Felipe area - check out Valle Chico area

These directions first came from Corky, then I think posted by David K...for credit anyway.
The only change we found is that once you get onto Morin Blvd there is an added signal light not on the list below. It doesn't change anything except
the number of signals you pass through.
We've used this a number of times with ease. John
Finding Calexico/Mexicali East Border (from Corky)
Corky asked me to post this good information for the Nomads... Directions going south are given, just reverse for coming north. This is the Costco
(Mexicali) short cut to the new east border gate ('garita').
GARITA #2
Directions for using the new border crossing east of Calexico.
From El Centro: Go East on Interstate 8 to Highway 111 exit. Go South on Highway 111 to the third light (Hwy. 98 or Truck Route 7). Go East on Highway
98 for about 7 miles where the sign shows the border crossing. Make a right and proceed up and over the cloverleaf and into the border crossing (this
is clearly marked). RV's are to follow the signs for passenger cars.
From Yuma: Take Highway 8 West and exit at Highway 98. Go West on Highway 98 for about 16 miles. At the traffic light, make a left and proceed up and
over the cloverleaf and into the border crossing (this is clearly marked).
Once through the new border crossing you will come to a "T" crossing. Make a right and proceed West along the border boundary to the first stop sign
where you will make a left onto Calzado Manuel Gomez Morin (MORIN BLVD). Continue South on MORIN through 7 traffic lights, passing the Sony plant.
Turn left onto Highway 5 (8th light) going South. San Felipe is about about 2 - 2 1/2 hours driving time from the border.
-At the 2nd light there will be a Burger King on the right.
-At the 3rd light there is a Ley grocery store on the right.
-At the 4th light there is a road overpass, then a Burger King and
Calimax grocery store and Bital Bank on the right.
-At the 6th light there is a Pemex on the left and an Oxxo (7-11) on
the right, then you pass Sony on the right.
-At the 7th light is the MEX 2 highway crossing.
-At the 8th light turn left onto Highway 5 and immediately pass
Costco store on the left, straight ahead for San Felipe.
Returning, just remember to turn right at the first light passed Costco.
Continue back through the seven lights on Morin Blvd.
There will be a signed right turn for the border crossing one block before you get to the boundary road with the stop sign that you turned left at to
go south. This road will merge with the road from the "T" by the border crossing, where you can make a left across the border.

Lou, I heard on the news yesterday that they are installing cameras and radar at the crossing in town and telling everyone to use the east crossing.
We came across the same day as you at around 1:00 and waited the same 1 1/2 HOURS. The report said that it's going to be a few weeks so if you have
to come across get ready for the wait. I.m thinking about going to tecate to cross but the difference in drive time may not make it worth it?
