Looking for info on Punta Colonet
Hey all-
I used to go camping down in Punta Colonet when I was a kid, but its been like 15 years since I have made the journey down. We're into primitive
camping-tents and such, but am curious to find a little more information on spots, what we need to take with us, directions, advice, funny stories,
and general know-how from other lovers of the area.

Are you talking about Colonet or maybe Quatro Casas a little south of there?....Are you going down to surf?....

I don't know about surfing, but we use to spend a lot of time at San Antonio Delmar. Sand dunes next to beach. There's a camp ground area on the south
side that's high above the water so as not to get the dampness from the ocean. I have been told the deep pools (dark areas) in the surf water have
hallibit on either side. Wade out waist deep and cast and slowly reel it in. I've tried it several times but never caught any. I usually catch surf
perch normally in the surf. Tony was a guy on the north side of the dunes, he passed away a while back, use to bring lobster by to sell. I believe his
family still runs the place.

The sand dunes sound familar. I have photos of us camping on a cliff over the beach, but my memory is blurry becuase I was just a kid. We used to
ATV down there. Do either of you know if its still primitive camping, or are there developed campgrounds? We're looking for hidden treasures rather
than RV camping.
Any other recommendations for camping?

Sn Antonio Del Mar (Johnson Ranch) and Punta Colonet are really two different places. The last time I was out there (couple of years ago) San Antonio
Del Mar had more development than Colonet.

Colonet. on the nth side of the bay they now have elect. all the way out. Turns in right before the fish camp an goes up top of the point. Local
ranchers have told us a new Resort is going in. The south side of the bay is still pretty much the same or was in June. San Antonio del Mar is
starting to grow. A few more homes this year went in north of the trailer camp by the sand dunes. The camping there is still pretty primitive. Just
beware of the tide and camp high. Little English is spoken in the area. Also make sure you have what supplies you need such as ice and food. Its a
long dusty and rocky ride back to town. If you want to see it, kind of as it was 15 yrs ago you'd best get down soon. Before the big change comes.
Locals say the harbor won't be for ten years. People are buying land like crazy. Is it ever going up. Go down and explore also there is a little
motel a mile or so before town on the right. Great Showers and hot water. I think its 22-25 per night. Clean rooms the family that runs it are really
nice people. The first store on the right has fresh water you can fill water bottles with. They have some fresh produce. The store down a bit on the
Left, has ice and a meat counter and more fresh produce and lots more canned goods. The carnitas stand by the premix is outstanding carnitas tacos.
At least they were too weeks ago. Hope this helps. Have fun and Enjoy I forgot you also need to get a visa to go past Ensenada, make sure you have
Mex insurance. Ck with your insurance company and see what they cover you for in Mex or if they even cover you. Our insurance State farm as of two yr
ago only covers, 50 miles in now. Even if you US insur. covers you Its the law you also have Mexican insurance.

If your camping on the beach. Be a little morre carefull then normal.
It seams there are a few thieves that are running around.
I've had some trouble and if you read the surfing threads on other boards they have run in to the same. Just use common sence and look it up. It's
still pretty and a fun place to chill thou . Have fun

Thanks for all the information. It was really helpful especially to fill in the gaps in my memory from the last time I was there. Would anyone
recommend a different site for my camping trip or will this one be fantastic?

I think you will be fine in this area....not too far for a short trip and easy roads.....you may also want to try south of colonet as there are roads
along the beach with remote camping.....
Another area would be further north around ERENDIRA...easy access and many beautiful beaches both to the north and the south of the town....
