Newbie Alert...plus Cabo Questions
Hey all;
I'm new to the board, so I thought I'd start out by asking a question about Cabo San Lucas.
I've been to Mexico a coupla times, but never to Baja. I'm looking for some modest accomodations in or around CSL. Most of the
condos/villas that you see are $300/night and up--no way can we afford that, we need that money for diving!
I found two or three places in town that look OK, maybe you have heard of them? One is this guy cabomike's properties, advertised at:

These, we could totally afford but I'm having trouble contacting the guy since he's apparently in Cabo and doesn't have his (American) phone
with him.

Looks like ass but it's so cheep. Anyone know about this one?
We'd much rather give our money to some local than to some corporation or slum lord (not judging these guys at all, I'm talking about the big guys
with big bucks who just want more). We've thought about just flying down there, staying in a hotel one night, and then trying to find a good deal once
we get there--that worked out great on Isla Mujeres.
That plan worries me though, 'cause I don't want to get stuck paying top dollar because we can't find a place.
A lot of you seem local (past or present). Do you know of anyone renting out their back house or anything like that? Any info would be really really
helpful.

theres a lot of baja other then csl. and lots of other places to dive too. might check them out if cost is a factor. csl is the most expensive way to
go. just a thought jerry

If you want to party and spend a lot of money Go to Cabo, If You want to dive inexpensivly and have much better diving experience many more locations
and cheaper. I'll give you one but there are many more if you research. In La Paz.

A piece of advice about the east cape. Beginning this time of year the wind can blow hard and long. To minimize this risk you need to be south of
Punta Gorda. That of necessicty gets you into the San Jose del Cabo and CSL area. However, you can be reasonably assured of not having a wind
problem.
For clean, modest accomodations, try the Mar de Cortez and Cabo Motel in CSL.

Do not underestimate the withering effects the wind can have on your party after a few days.
Rather than go closer to Cabo and all it's attendant garbage I would seriously take a look at La Paz. It's a great city with reasonable lodging
rates, good eating and nice diving

I agree with Bajabus - La Paz would be a much better first time experience in Baja with great diving nearby! A lot more bang for your buck too.

Ahhhhh....The CABO haters are out in force.............Cabo can be a wonderful place regardless of what you may hear here. Take your time to look
around, talk to the locals(the real ones not the ones who have been there 2 months and think they know it all), stay away from the tourist
traps......good advice anywhere in Mexico. The Mar de Cortez is an excellent base of operations, centrally located, clean, safe and run by a family
who has had the buisness since hector was a pup. The diving in Cabo can be spectacular as all types of sea life can be seen at one time or another
throught the year and the boat rides are relativly short compared to other locations so that you may actually accomplish more than one thing in a day.
Cabo does not have to be expensive if you look around. I know many Cabo newbies who in a matter of hours have found the 10 peso beer and 3 for a
dollar tacos. For your diving try Lands End Divers. The Ojeda family runs it and they are a s***-together outfit. Give Cabo a chance by checking it
out for yourself and dont be swayed by the nay sayers who cant see beyond the $300 condos as well as the glitz, glitted and other associated crap that
is there. It sounds to me that you are on the right track in looking for more of the essance of the area than the crap. Buenas Surte, Viva
