I found this on Fred Metcalf's board this a.m. regarding the loss of DirecTV ODD Transponders:

Here is a definitive explanation of the loss of so many channels on DirecTV. This was published by DirecTV in response to questions from Los Cabos.
Insight into changes at DTV.
From what I can tell from these threads is that most, if not all of these people live down in Mexico. We do have lots of customers who have vacation
houses down there that can get our programming, but not legally. They are doing this on their own. In order to receive our signal, they need large
dishes, which have very narrow beam evens are located. In order to see the odds again, they will either need to repoint their dishes, or add a second
dish and an AB switch, one dish odd polawidths. On Oct 12, we moved programming from D1R and D2 to D8, all at 101, which was all of the odd
transponders, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, & 31. The beam squint on D8 is tighter than it was on D1R or D2, so what most
likely happened, beacuse of the tighter beam width of their dishes, they can now only see one satellite, D1R, where the rity, second dish even
polarity. We do not remove transponders from our customers. This is not an issue in the US where we are using smaller dishes. This is not a DIRECTV
issue, but theirs.

It was informative info did not need rep-ly, I personally I printed it out and gave it to my DTV neighbors, thanks, it was not welcomed by all. It

I thought it was pretty plain. DirTV doesn't support anything south of the USA. I think you can expect to loose the rest when they move to a new
satallite again.

There is no reason for anyone to Lose ANY of their DirecTv stations. The release made that clear. They are simply on a different
satellite in a different position. Utilizing a larger dish or reaiming your existing dish allows you to bring in all of the channels. Even IF DTV
were to move other stations to differnet satellites, you could still reaim your dish to receive them. They won't be putting the majority of the
stations on Spotbeam Transponders because of the duplication required.

You May be Right
The language used in reference to buying a larger dish doesn't appear to be a suggestion, but rather an acknowledgement of existing practice in Baja
Sur. A second dish would seem to be the most practical approach since reaiming the existing dish for different channels would get to be a pain. I do
it on my motorhome, but the antenna mast is right outside the door so it's not that much trouble.
I'm wondering why a combiner switch such as the SW21 wouldn't work rather than an A/B switch that you had to operate each time you switch feeds. ?

I just got a ribbing from my kid about this last week
...AB switch with a printer.
AB switches are OLD SCHOOL!!!!
This SW21 Switch is the way to go..Auotmatic!!!
The last time I looked I thought you could get a cople of spotbeam local channels with your service
Right now we don't pay for TV only the FREE stuff and Susan thinks I watch too much of that

So is this just impacting LA PAZ / Cabo, or also the Mulege area.
No impact has been reported in San Carlos which is roughly the same distance from the border as Mulege.

SpotBeams
You can buy access to local channels depending upon what city you're Billing is located, but down South it wouldn't do any good if they were on a
spotbeam transponder since that city's spotbeam is good for only a 150 mile radius around the focal point. With Dish Network L.A., NY, Denver and
Atlanta are still on NON Spotbeam feeds.
A couple of years back, during the glory days of Pirate TV, the local network feeds available on the receiver were staggering.
New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Raleigh-Durham, Boston, etc. It was glorious. I miss
those days, not to mention two years of MLB Pay channels with every game available. All gone now.

I can tell you that a 1.8 meter in Cabo will not work. Trying to get a 2.4 mt down there but that is an expensive proposition for a test.
