New Baja Search Engine
Hey Nomads, Tio Rocky here after a long absence.
I have been working on a new ?Baja Exclusive Search Engine? for quit some time now and thought it might be good to try and get a little help from
those that love Baja most. The search engine is much like a Google search where it will spider entered URL?s and keep the database up to date. Un like
Google it will not go out and find the sites, the first entry of a site must be done by hand and believe me it has taken a long time to get it to it?s
present state. The reason for not using this tool is that other Baja Search Engines I have seen quickly start getting loaded up with non Baja Related
sites so you might as well be on Google or one of the others.
I presently have hundreds and hundreds of sites listed in the index but am surely missing thousands. The problem I am having is that when I search for
sites the first 100 or so were easy but as I continued to search I just found mostly secondary pages from the same top 50??. That made the search much
harder but also made me realize that it really could be a good tool if I could find all those mom and pop sites out there.
If any of you have the time and desire, please go to the link below and at the bottom of the page where it says ?Submit your site?, please do?. I will
then manually go in and enter it into the system. Additionally, please feel free to enter any Baja related site you may know. With the exception of
full blown nudity ALL sites will be entered. No favoritism will be played here.
Lastly, for any of you who might like to have a search box on your site I can set that up for you.
The site is located at www.buscarbaja.com
Thanks everyone and have a great Baja time!
Tio Rocky

I typed in Agua Verde and "Agua Verde" Both times 15 results appeared but only 1 had anything to do with the village/area. Then, I went to Google
and found over 15 pages of relevant info about AV.
Not trying to be critical just an observation.

No,,,, that is the reason for this post?.. if no one steps up with sites it won?t go anywhere,,,, but if people contribute it will be way better then
Google because it will be much more specific?
Let?s take your example, search results for Agua Verde in Google.

So on and so forth?.
There is one site there that may or may not be what your looking for?. Would you not prefer 10 sites that match what your looking for or a 1000 sites
with three that pertain to your site.
The point is that together we can build our own search engine that deals with what we want to search for.

I really like what you have done. Being as writer of Baja Books I spend a lot of time in researching materials on the internet and get very
frustrated when I have to cull through things like, Baja Chile, etc. I have even found the site --MiBaja in some foreign language on google and now
on your site--wonder what the value is because it can not be easily translated (don't even know what language). You can bet that I will be visiting
your site often and perhaps I can add a few things as time goes on.
Ton of work---Thanks
It is now in my favorites--between Google and San Diego Historical Society.

I typed in three places: Nuevo Mazatlan, Las Pintas and El Marmol
The first gave me links to places called Nuevo OR Mazatlan ...
Las Pintas linked back to one of my web pages!... El Marmol as well with a couple others' web pages.
Tio, I think Doug knows a way to filter out all the non-Baja search results that are coming up?
Anyway, thank you for doing this, and I will play with it some more, soon!

David K, to enter a phrase, put parenthesis around it. i.e., "Nuevo Mazatlan".

Thanks
Wow, I was away for the weekend and returned to all these great responses. I had posted this some time back and got every little response and had
almost given up hope.
There are presently about 500 sites listed in the search engine and I have already added the ones sent to me this weekend. They may take a day or two
to show up as this is a real ?spidering? engine that checks all listed sites every 72 hours.
A word of caution to all you web-trainees?. If you submit a URL that is redirected to another URL the spider will not allow it. It?s no different then
the big boys out there. It is a safeguard against someone submitting a site and then in the future re-directing to a Russian porn site. The downside
is there are some really good reasons to redirecting a site or page, in fact I also have pages I do that with and they do not show up on the search?.
Ni modo..
As I run across sites I do add them but it would be helpful if people sent them to me?. 500 is only a fraction of what it should be but over time it
should grow and grow and become useful to all.
Thanks Nomads and keep checking, it will be more complete as time goes by.
