list of items I can bring home from Mexico?

We need to find the US govt. list of items approved for import for personal use.

I formerly was told that I could bring plants cuttings across the border as long as there were no roots or dirt on them. Tonight, the succulent cuttings I broke off at our beach house were taken away from me. I have brought cuttings home from these same plants before. I declared them both times- the last guy said it was fine- this time I was told it was illegal!

The list (we had it before) was pretty long (pages and pages). Any one know?

I once had a customs agent confide in me that those lists were not uniformly issued to any agents, they were in fact hard to come by, and the majority of agents were not really cognizant of import details. Most just make it up as they go. Buena Suerte.

I had some over-ripe fruit with a dozen white flies swarming over them taken away in Mexicali. The man at customs asked me if I was Trying To Pollute the United States!! That goof-ball...
