Blue whale watching in Loreto?
Hey y'all amigos. Long time no post. We are going down to Loreto next week for 10 days including up to San Igancio and EcoMundo. While we're in
Loreto, we want to go whale watching for BLUE whales (not gray). Any suggestions about the best people to hire to do this in Loreto? Any suggestions
in general for looking for blue whales or other whales? We are going out with Kuyima in San Ignacio and staying at Casa Leree. And staying at Villas
de Loreto when we come back, I guess for hte last time since they are closing.

Marla.
Blue and finback whales,as well as all other species, require a certain amount of luck to spot. They're not confined to a lagoon, like on the Pacific
side. So, no captain will guarantee you that he will find whales for you, though some are better at it then others. Real flat, windstill day will help
a bunch,since they can be spotted much farther away.
And the closing of the Villas is news to most of us in Loreto. Please elaborate. And lots of luck on your whale watching trip.

I wish Ron and Wendy the very best!! They worked hard and did a Good Job.
Blue Whales; this is the time of year that the Whales seperated and not in anyone Location.
During the years that Virginia and I lived at Rancho Sonrisa, our most sightings in one season was 48 Blues. Most of the time off of Pt. Lobo, then on
a line from Pt Lobo South to Catalina.
Going North of Manaderos about 5 mile off shore we would find several different Groups.
If you really want to take a longer Trip go South to Las Animas and work the area over to San Jose isla.
Several times I would take my plane and run a line from Cata;ina to Del Efonso. then get Alvaro in his Panga and go Whale Watch for several Days.

For whale watching, I would suggest calling Rafael at the Dolphin Dive shop. There's no way that anyone can guarantee seeing blues, but if anyone can
do it, Rafael can.
It is sad that VdeL is closing as a hotel...but, it is a good thing for Wendy and Ron. We'll make sure our last visit there happens before the end of
July closing date.

blue whales
Have seen blues from shore at Nopol? the past 2 days. These are the first of the year for me. As as said above, they are not still and sightings can't
be guaranteed.
http://www.desertandsea.com offers trips out of Loreto for blues, finbacks, sperms, etc.

Thanks! We are excited to come down there I hope it's not TOO windy! I am disappointed too about Vilas de Loreto closing because we've never even BEEN
there, are going because some of you folks recommended it, and were hoping to make it a regular thing! But I guess they are only going to honor
existing reservations until July. There's a message about it on their website www.villasdeloreto.com. ONLY TWO MORE DAYS TO BAJA AND COUNTING!
