Where
There are a million little oasis canyons in the Sierras of Baja. The road shot looks like the route from Mex 1 to La Purisima through San Isidro.

I thought that it looked like that area too. Because of the mesa looking mountains around. I could also be on the Pacific coast north of Lopez
Mateos.
Tomas is out fishing. Maybe he will tell us upon his return

Change the image tag on photo #1 Tomas or I'll be tempted to cheat.

Don and I want to drive that road. We've been from Loreto to Comondu through Rancho Viejo, which is dangerous in a car, and through San Javier,
which is veeeeeeryyyyyy loooooonnnggg.
How is this road? Would you reccommend a '96 F150 or an all wheel drive Honda CR-V (this is the car that has gone the other roads to Comondu)?

Paula, they both will do just fine, but take whichever has the highest clearance and best ride. Most of these roads I have taken my old Minnie Winnie
25ft motorhome to the bitter end...but it has a lot of clearance and has little monetary value left. We have camped on the beach at Agua Verde a few times...had the place all to ourselves.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

The East road in to La Purisima hasn't been maintained for over 10 years now, which is a bummer because it used to be the best way in to Punta
Peque?a. It's still passable, but without the scraper and the replacement of dirt that washes away, it's a slow rocky ride. We stopped going that way
because the back and forth swaying as you climb the lava hills was taking it's toll on our truck's utility bed and camper. Clearance would be more
important that 4WD on most parts of the road. I'd take your truck Paula. It used to take 1 hour 50 minutes from the Hwy 1 turn off to the turn off to
San Juanico.
But Tomas still needs to share where his photo was taken.

No but it's another spot on the someday-list.
It'd be better if you revealed the location and then you could tell us a little about it.

Pompano and Oladulce,
Thank you for the advice on the San Isidro road. We'll wait until Semana Santa has passed, and then be on our way!

It is a little place just outside of San Jose de Gracia called "La Junta".
My Wife and I stumbled out there years ago by accident. We got on the road (photo 3) and couldn't turn around.
We had been camping near Datil and were given some really incredible citrus by a local fisherman. "Limon real" he called them. Looked like a big thick
skinned lemon but were very sweet and delicous. When asked where they came from he said San Jose de Gracia. We were heading to San Jaunico and
decided to side trip there to see if we could get some more fruit.
When we got there a primary school was just going on break so I asked a kid where I could get some oranges and he directed us onto this road. It got
very narrow and then very wet. we went through a tunnel of vegetation and came out to a clearing with several old buildings (photo 2). There we saw
mango, guava, sugarcane, fig, banana, orange, lime, lemon royal, and a beutiful vegetable garden. Also assorted livestock, chicken, goats, and a couple
cows.An old man came out and introduced himself as Lorenzo. I was very appologetic about our intrusion and said that we just wanted to turn around
and not bother him. He of course insisted we stay for lunch because he hadn't had a visitor for quite some time and wanted to hear the story of how we
had found him and his oasis..Turns out my fisherman buddy down in Datil was his son in law Victor "Pengua" as he is known
he then pulled out some toys that I had given to his grandson a few days prior (Polito the grandson attented the school in town). What a small
peninsula! He took us in like family and shared incredible story of old times
Lorenzo and his wife Flora, both in thier 80's, had been ther since the 1930's! When I asked him how many times he had been out of there to G.N. he
said about a dozen!! Almost totally self contained in that box canyon for all those years! He walks to town,San Jose de Gracia( about 2 or 3K) every
other day for ciggies and tecates with the boys..
After a great lunch of fish machaca and fresh tortillas in Floras wonderful outdoor kitchen...oh yeah the kitchen is fed by a spring that runs the
most incredible water I've ever had over her sink 24/7 for who knows how many years.. we were on our way back down the road with several differnt
types of fruit..We wer invited to stay for a few days and camp, but wanted to go surfing..shoulda stayed..we'v been back several time over the years
and consider Lorenzo and Flora dear friends.
Bob H...maybe it was a trick post because I think only a small handfull of people have been out there.
Can't wait to get back! I'll see if can dig up a few more photos..
