Fishing questions for punta chivato

Hi, we are taking a trip June 16 thru July 1 , the majority of our time will be spent in punta chivato... We are going back in fourth, about pulling our 15 ft alum. boat, or renting pangas while we are there ? Does anyone have any good advice, and also wondering if anyone has any names I can get the cost of panga fishing out there ect.

Also if any of you have been thru Punta chivato lately, Can you also give me the conditions of the road off Mexi 1 to chivato ?

Thanks any info will be appreciated...

Hey Sunshine:
The road to Punta Chivato is good. We had a rental car and took the road a little faster then if we were in our own car(35mph). Fished from the rocky point near the campground and didn't get a bite! I think your boat will be perfect for that area. Should be nice and hot! Have fun. Could probably go out in a panga, just ask around.

panga about $150 day guided and with bait you catch early, book thru Serenidad, ask for Alex, he is tops. Everyone says dodos will be in early this season based on mangroves in bloom. ???????go figure..........but i believe the local old timers.

that road sucks..........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
gonna be hot.........i'll see you there, i'll be the one sitting at the swim up bar quaffing ice cold ones.........:bounce:

You can't really count on the condition of the road in. Expect narly washboard and anything else will be gravy. If I was going for 2 weeks, I would definitely bring my boat, just go slow and put the motor in the truck for the washboards. It's sooooo nice for going out ANY time you want !!
We normally leave our 14 footer anchored in a few feet of water at Chivato unless it really gets windy.

Take the boat...

You can just tie it to the shore with a sand spike....
or drag it in on the sand.

Go with a guide once...then just do the same thing with your boat.

The road is 10 miles of bumps...but I was there last 2 months ago and it was fine.

Remember to take swim masks too....weather will be excellent unless you're from Canada then.....you'll think it's too hot.

Definitely take the boat!

If the road in is rather washboard, air down your tires in both the vehicle and the trailer. 20 lbs will be about right. You should be able to do 15 mph comfortably. A "transom saver" is nice if you trailer with the motor attached to the boat.

There is a launch ramp west of the hotel.

The best anchorage is on the west side of the light tower on Punta Ines. It's better protected from the typical south winds than in the cove itself.

If your boat is a Gregor, the Gregor rep told me not to use a transom saver. He said to lock the motor in the straight up & down position for going over the washboard. Give Gregor a call to check it out if you don't believe me. I have hauled my motor in the locked down position like he said and never had a problem with my transom.

Chivato hotel area ramp near just to right of this photo...

..with the hotel in the background. Over the years, many thirsty fishermen have anchored in this shallow bay for a quick stop at the patio bar...but not too much these days.

The ramp is generally in good shape, there is a fillet table with water hose, and shade. Have fun out there and good luck fishing.

I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.
