Trolling Isla Carmen
.......when around Punta Chivato. I was "on land" when I was a few hundred yards off the beach.
I'm rather surprised that the DMA (or whatever succeeded it) hasn't updated charts in the area via satellite.
Imagine if fog was more common on the S o C? We'd be reading about gringos running into the beach all the time.
What kind of a plotter, Jorge?
I looked at the Chivato area on a Garmin Blue Chart about a year ago and was amazed at the amount of detail along the coast. Where my older C-Map NT+
chart was reduced to general vector lines when I zoomed in, the Garmin continued to show good detail. Unfortunately, it also had the same error as my
Furuno.

The cards I bought for my spendy Lowrance LCX-110C are....crapola...I use my own waypoints for navigating in the fog, plus running the gps trip map
record to backtrack...and my compass, clock, and speed. Always take a spare... my little bargain-priced Garmin with stored waypoints.
If I am really pressed to find shore...impact tells me I am there. Been there...done that.
p.s. rememeber these old paper graphs? I still have about 50 rolls of paper if anyone wants them!

I have read......
.....that some hardcore bass fishermen still use the paper charts cause they like the printed record of what the bottom looked like in specific
locations.

For sure, they do, Hook. I know a couple sill using them Up North for deep lake trout holes. And I used to do the same a long time ago. But my
Lowrance unit is better...you can bring it or the chip in to your computer and see the whole day played out for yourself on the moniter. What an age!
You can relive the moment...and, unfortunately, see where you made all those mistakes.
