What's the real deal RE:rental cars/credit card coverage
We'd really like to get this straight -- and forgive me, because I know this subject has been discussed before, I just don't remember the outcome...
What is the deal with renting a car and the insurance/coverage your credit card provides. Some say this type of coverage is invalid in Mexico, others
say to just sign up for the liability coverage and if something else happens and your credit card provides coverage in Mexico (like Amex) then you are
good to go.
I'd really like to get to the bottom of this once and for all !

I think with most CC deals, you have to pay and they will reinburse you.
In the case of Mexico, they reinburse you AFTER you get out of JAIL!!!!!!!!!!

When going into Baja (Ensenada) I rent from Dollar. My VISA covers CDW (told me on the phone that it's good for Baja)and Dollar tacks on $25 a day
full coverage Mexican insurance...so far, so good.

So you're paying $25 a day to duplicate the coverage your VISA gives you plus the Mex liability.

no, ma'am.....the $25 a day is Mexican liability insurance....I decline the Dollar Rentals CDW policy ($9.00 a day), VISA covers the CDW at no cost to
me, as long as I rent the car on my VISA card....

Get a years "liability on any car you drive" in Mexico for $60 or so.

I just rented a car in La Paz from Thrifty and the nice girl at the counter said that we got full insurance coverage included in the price. There was
one price and she would not offer any other options.

Your best bet it to check with your credit card company as they all have different terms and conditions.

Don,
A drivers license policy is in fact a good deal if you will be driving different vehicles, but "tourist" auto insurance does not cover Mexican plated
vehicles, such as cars rented in Mexico.
