new topic for forum...YOUTH FORUM

My 16 year old daughter enjoys reading some of the forums with me and wants to be a member and asked if there were any young people in this forum? She thought it would be interesting to post a new topic that would inspire younger folks to participate, maybe kids of members?? I thought it might be a good idea...what do you think?:light:

hey guys!! i'm sirena..shari's daughter...i totaly understand HOSE A's daughter because i do not like speaking english a whole lot either..haha...and yes i read it and speak it at home with mom but will not do it in public...I don't know why...I guess it's because it separates me even more from the kid's at school...I love reading it though...I would love to communicate with HOSE A's step daughter...and any other nomad teens...it would be cool to have our own forum as we sometimes have very different views on stuff...

This is a great idea. My 2 1/2 yr. old's favorite topics of discussion are Teletubbies, Thomas the Tank Train and poop...not in that particular order. It would be nice if he could find others of his peer group who share in his diverse and esoteric interests!

Should the forum for kids be protected so that only the kids can access it? If so, how do I determine who's really a kid if they request access?

well...i think it would be a god idea just to put a forum out there for teens and the mom thing is also a really good idea...and then well..i mean as long as there is no bad behavior or stuff like that it would be ok to let other people that are interested in what us teens have to say in on the forum and well...talk to us also but i just think it would be really interesting to have a forum based on what today's youth thinks about baja and maybe get to know eachother better so that when they come down they will be kind of informed on what is going on...and maybe we can share ideas about how to have an even better time if possible because i'm aware of some teens who their parents have to drag them down here and the spend their whole vacation complaining instead of enjoying the awsome stuff there is here...but maybe they don't know about or the don't feel to optimistic about leaving their friends...and the teen forum would be a way to let them know that there are alot of things to do...

Better to make it a "Teens Column" (forum), where only certain people can start threads in that forum? Anyone could respond. Might that be a better solution?

I'm thinking that might solve the "needs" as I perceive them? Yes?

I am so excited about the teen column..i personnaly think it is a great idea and abou the party's I am probably a really good person to ask because as my mom would say I'm a "party girl" in a good way though so i have all the info on party's and dances and everything...and i think the anon. protection is a really good idea because they do get on everyones nerves sometimes..and also the idea about letting some people comment and other post the letters and al that..i don't know but i really hink it would be fun..like having alot of pen pals...well it's your desicion...your call!!! I'd be happy to help!!!

Anons can be prevented. If you haven't noticed, there's only one forum now that gives anons posting privs...

On one hand, why would a Teen Forum be treated any differently than any of the other forums (other than the off topic...duh)..it will live of die on it's own....

On the other hand, you must be completely nuts to even entertain this in todays enviornment! You don't see many Bajanomads on my$p@(e.com, so why would you expect to see kids/teens here?

Tough call, but I would think that adding a teen forum should be a reaction to all the teens already using the site, rather than trying to drive a market for it by creating one. If kids/teens want to be here, then let them show themselves by starting threads and creating discussion. Once that happens, create a new forum!

Doug brings up a point with an unasked question, how do we protect our children from adults posing as youth, with all its implications.
Proposal: any youth who wishes to post to the teen forum needs a sponsor from an already established nomad be it a parent or friend. And any one not already in the BN community can ask for a face to face meeting where say Bob and Susan in Mulege can verify? Or so and so in La Paz, or whoever in BOLA

Doug,
Block out anons... and give it a test for 30-days and see how it goes. You can always pull the plug at any time.

Doug,

Thanks for limiting the Anons. I have noticed a huge reduction from a few months ago.

I like the "teen-only" posting idea where we can all respond, if asked.
Maybe SiReNiTa and a few other "sponsored" teens could lead the board and make some "teen" posts with information and teen views as well as questions. Seems Bruce is absent but I bet his daughters would be a great addition to the teen forum.

After all, I was a teen just yesterday,......... or was it two days ago ??

Seriously, I have an 11 year old daughter and need all the help I can get understanding how she will menace our lives for the next 7 to 10 years.

I would hope that Anons would be restricted from this forum and that all us teens-long-ago would stay on good behavior.

Welcome SiRe... shouldn't you have been in bed before 11:16pm last night ?!?!?!

I appreciate the personal communications I've received from a number of Nomads here. The message is the same, and I'm quite aware of the real scary issues dealing with children & teenagers regarding human predators on the Internet - and the risk I take in implying that a forum here is only for teens, or in being able to guarantee that anyone representing themselves as minors - actually are.

Let's be clear: I have no way to assure the age of users here. There are people very adept at posing as younger than their real age. Want proof, look here:
http://www.perverted-justice.com

What I propose is simply this: A "Teen Perspective" column in the "Special Correspondents" forums. Postings will only be allowed by those users that I have a reasonable belief to be "junior" Nomads. If I don't know them personally, they'll need one of our "seasoned" Nomads here to vouch for them. Is this a "perfect" solution? No. But it's certainly making an extended effort. This is not a "teens only" forum, but one that hopefully only teens are starting threads in.

I will follow this thread to view your continuing thoughts on this - and reserve the right to change my mind on this at any time. Thank you.

Well...the 30 day thing is a good idea, and also i think that the sponsor idea is a good way of having an idea about who's on here and what they are about..what we were discussing yesterday about how to be sure that teens are teens..well that is a solution...and about the teens coming out and posting threads...i thought that was what I am doing..trying to get other teens active on this site so we can share opinions with everyone else...and maybe make some new friends

Well I hope our American teens can match your English skills, writing ability and charm so that you can share some opinions.

It sure is interesting for us to witness the results of a child growing up in rural Baja. Kind of reminds me of the children that rural America used to produce about 70 years ago, before ................
