Making a Cruiser "Baja Ready"
Toyota's FJ Cruiser is starting to grow by leaps and bounds. There's new winch bumpers and lift kits that allow for 33" (LT285r16) tires and more
wheel travel. Its starting to look more like a real Baja vehicle and less like a "Cute-Ute."
Suspension Kits from all of the 4WD Suspension makers:
Bumpers are now available:

Ken, we looked at 'em too. The storage space is really hurting. The rear seat folds down, but not flat - it slopes up quite a bit. It would be ok for
a short trip but if you intended to go for a week I'd doubt you could get enough stuff in it. We looked at with that in mind. The're kinda "cute" and
have good equipment from the factory - but I'd bet my regular ice chest wouldn't fit in worth a hoot. I suppose a roof rack would help some.
Now - for a day trip, or overnighter - ok.
My opinion - John M

I think Ken is a Jeep guy so he should be used to the storage limitations...

Ken - THE Jeep guy!
You are right Tom - he is that!
I've had a CJ-7 for over 20 years as well - this FJ has significantly less usable space in my opinion.

The CJ-7...not exactly a "land-yacht."

I was up in the hills yesterday and talked to a guy in a new FJ.. It was pretty cool..he said the inside is waterproof and you can hose it out!
i think that impressed me most..We were on relatively tame terrain, but he said it performed very well..

Interior space
Tom - (and Ken)
In an earlier post I made reference to interior space in the Jeep vs the FJ -
Trying to come up with specs, I found these comparisons - they were taken from the respective manufacturer sites.
I hope I have interpreted them correctly.
FJ - Interior space - rear seat folded down - from the back of the front seat to the back of the vehicle - 66.8 cu. ft.
Jeep Rubicon (not the extended model) - from the back of the front seat to the back of the vehicle - 93.8 cu. ft.

Suzanne and I were on our way home from our biking routine, and at the Riverside Toyota dealership, they had a 2WD model - base price = $22.5K
sticker price = $29.5K
With the Straight axle suspension kits coming out, and prices leveling out in a few years, maybe I'd consider one of these...

CJ-6 is the long Jeep with rounded doorways, like a CJ-5... The CJ-8 (Scrambler) has square doorways, like the CJ-7.
