Close encounter with a Lion

Sea Lion that is!

The water was not too clear but here is a photo taken by one of the scuba divers on our sailing trip. When I was snorkling with them, I thought that their eyes were closed when they went under water. My friend sent me this to prove that I was wrong.

Never been in the water with 'em, but we hear them barking and grunting here (Canada) for 8 months of the year now; 20 years ago, never. What we have around here are huge animals, the Stellars.

This is a harbor seal (the one on the left) but close enough. Like other marine mammals their eyes have an air space behind the lens that allows them to see equally as well in air and water.

Thanks mucho Bob, Susan, morgaine7 and Eli. I kinda like that one too. The one on the right is my daughter Coleen, my best dive buddy. That was taken in about 1987 in Cathedral Cove at Anacapa Island.
