Baja California Sur Announces New Tourism Marketing Campaign

April 19, 2006

LA PAZ, Mexico - The Baja California Sur Tourism Board has recently launched an aggressive marketing campaign to heighten consumer awareness of the destination.

Located on the southern portion of the Baja Peninsula, Baja California Sur is one of Mexico's least populated states with fewer than 500,000 inhabitants. This soon-to-be-discovered paradise offers vacationers pristine beaches, charming hotel accommodations and a bounty of cultural and natural wonders ripe for exploration.

"It gives me great pleasure to introduce our homeland, filled with such striking beauty and rich history to the rest of the world," said Alberto Trevi'o of the newly formed Baja California Sur Tourism Board. "With the financial support of Consejo (the Council for the Promotion of Tourism in Mexico), the La Paz Hotel Association and the Los Cabos Tourism Board, we are now able to better promote our area attractions."

La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, is located approximately 135 miles north of Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez. As a contemporary resort destination, La Paz offers the appeal of an authentic Mexican village combined with the tourism services savvy travelers have come to expect. Guided eco-tours and expeditions to the nearby World Heritage site of Sierra de San Francisco to view primitive cave dwellings and prehistoric art are widely available. Diving and snorkeling excursions to the archipelago of Espiritu Santo, located about 20 miles off the coast of La Paz and referred to as "the world's aquarium" by Jacques Cousteau, are also easily arranged and not to be missed.
