License for Scooters in Loreto
My compradre, Pancho, told me to bring my pink slip down next time on my 49cc scooter. He said they were starting to enforce licensing for gringo
scooters and motorbikes in Loreto. Anyone heard anything on this. In many cities and states we don't have to have a license if it is under 50cc's.
If you have any information on this, please share it here.

I heard that this was the case in Loreto and it was reported a few issues ago in the Gringo Gazette's Loreto Section. So ONLY Gringo scooters and
electric carts, etc? Wish they'd enforce this on those really loud local dirtbikes and 3 and 4 wheelers.

I am in total agreement, especially 3 wheel and quads. The problem is, it is unnecessary for most adults. the ones creating a nuisance and hazard
will eventually get quads banned in even small dirt road Pueblos. If they are licensed they will be legal and not likely to get privileges revoked.
capn.sharky, I also have a 49cc and have a Class CM1. Pain in the arse, but worth the effort. On a 49cc it is real eeeeeasy. The only 2 difficult, if
you can call it that, things is circle balance and knowing front brake side. Another thing is insurance and I don't know of any company's that you
will get insured without a license. I drive a thousand miles a year in the SF Bay area and had 4 people that didn't see me and one that thought I
would stay in the middle and tried to pass to run a red light. I went down so believe me about insurance.

Doesn't really have any bearing on Baja Calif Mexico. Or Baja Calif Sur, Mexico

Well it does have a bearing. If you don't need a license plate here in the states, chances are you wouldn't have one on your moto in Baja. This is
another chance for them to get you to import your scooter and charge you for it. I see little children driving cars and trucks around town---I'm
talkin about 10 year olds. So why pick on scooters? I know, their country---their rules.

but you do have to license scooters in California...
and..
you have to have a motorcycle license
i bought one for my daughter when she went to Upland High School...
she was in the yearbook as the "Scooter Girl"
if your scooter is not licensed you cannot drive it on public roads.

Aha, you caught me inspector. You are right you have to have them both in California. So now I will import the scooter and get a plate for it.....
Bob, you Californians are always looking for ways to get money to Sacramento. Perhaps this is why you want to move to Baja on a permanent basis.

what it take now in loreto for a drivers licence
used to be 12 bucks and a picture and blood type??

They hold a mirror under your nose---if it gets cloudy, you get a license. Good for two years and costs $14.00. If you have driven in Loreto, you
will know that no special skill is required to drive there. They (especially the women) run the four way stop signs like crazy. They turn left right
in front of you....they pull out from the curb without looking. And....forget weekends. Thats when they fill the tank with Tecate and Pacifico.
Oh---and you need two pictures (the photo shop guy must be related to the cops and the migra as this is always a requirement). I was stopped recently
and asked for a current license. I asked the policia, you want a California license, a Mexican license or an international drivers license. He
picked the Mexican one. He checked it for expiration, told me he was sorry to have bothered me and sent me on my way.

believe it or not you actually have to have a license for bicycles on public roads in California (USA). I went to UC Davis in Davis, CA the "bicycle
capital of the USA" and they made us all get CA bicycle licenses to have bikes on campus. The impounded bikes without them too....what next?
