Children Needed Treatment After Baja California Car Crash

UPDATED: 9:36 am PDT August 4, 2006

SAN DIEGO -- Two American children seriously injured in a Baja California car crash were airlifted by the California Air National Guard to San Diego for treatment at a hospital, officials said.

Members of the 129th Rescue Wing flew a C-130P Hercules plane to Guerrero Negro, Mexico, from Moffett Federal Airfield in Northern California, according to guard officials.

A 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were picked up and flown to Naval Air Station North Island accompanied by their mother, according to Navy spokesman Steve Fiebing.

Representatives from Children's Hospital were on hand to meet the aircraft, Fiebing said.

Two siblings, ages 11 and 13, who were not as badly hurt, were driven to San Diego from the accident scene, according to Fiebing.

The children's conditions were not immediately available, and it was unclear what caused the crash.
