Gout Doctor
Anybody know of a good rheumatologist in Mexico? He/she doesn't have to speak English.
I've had it with American doctors who can't take the time to help. All they ask is "Does it hurt when I do THIS?" as they empty my wallet.
I'll be driving from Phoenix and need any excuse for a Mexican vacation...

Have you tried Black Cherry Juice! You can get it at any health food store. Heard great things about how it works for those suffering from Gout. It
must be taken at sunrise on a sandy beach followed by 3days of fishing to really work!
We all want a peaceful world, filled with love and laughter, but we fill ourselves with anger and hate trying to fiqure out how to achive it.

I'm on Allopurinol for life. My doc said it was possible to control through diet, but why go through the hassle? One pill a day and don't worry
about it.
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Vandy: I too have Gout; Nine years ago at the Hospital in Villa Constitution Dr. Rene Hibiff started me on 100 Mg then increased it to 300 Mg. a Day.
I have had no problems since that time.
And I do know what you have gone through with American Doctors:In March of 03 in Fressno Calif. I beleived a doctor who performed a Double Knee
Atroscopy. After the Surgery the right Leg became totally Black, I was informed that it was Normal. Found out later from another Doctor that I did not
need surgery on the left Knee(Got a Shot of cortizone and have never had any trouble on the Left Knee}
Went thru 3 years of Various doctors trying to find the cause of much Pain in my right Leg.
Was finally told by Three Attornies in Fresno Calif. that I would never be successfull in Suing Dr. Erick Hanson because he was a very Popular Doctor
for Fresno State {Where I had Graduated}.
He is what happens when you go to see a doctor: They take your S.S number and in a matter of seconds have your complete Medical History. If you have
been to other doctors complaining of Pain etc. they "Protect their doctor Friends" and make all kinds of remarks, but never finding out the Cause.
finally I went to the Veterans Hospital in amarillo Texas where the Doctor examined me and stated{The Surgeron cut a Nerve and a Ligament during the
Operation}. She prescribed an anti-Inflamatory and now I am without Pain.
I did not want any of the Dr's money only what Medicare and my supplement had paid him for a Botched Operation and a letter of Apology.
Always get a second opinion!!

Thanks for the advice so far. I agree with the cherries/juice method, but I've been neglecting the root causes for 20 years and need some serious
medical help. Allopurinol had side effects of itching and skin rash for me.
Now the thing is, there's a cure that eliminates uric acid and the crystals from your system, but it hasn't been approved yet. It's called PEG
Uricase, an enzyme that most mammals have in their bloodstream but that humans lack (intelligent design, my butt!).
I have noticed that almost every Mexican, upon seeing my swollen elbow, says "Ooooh, acido urico", so the average common man seems to understand gout.
They MUST have some experienced doctors, not like the US fool who jammed a needle in my knee during an acute attack trying to drain the fluid...I
could have killed him!.
I am currently (for 2 months so far) on a no-meat, no-alcohol, no-seafood, no-beans, etc diet. Somebody tell me a decent doctor or put me out of my
misery.

Yup, Allopurinol for life. Me too. 300 mg/day
I have a twinge now and then if I over-do it with red meat, but otherwise, I haven't experienced the "exquisite" pain that all gout sufferers know for
about twenty years.
I don't do alcohol, but I can eat ALMOST anything else except organ meats. I just love it when I carelessly eat the turkey dressing during the
holidays, and someone has diced the liver into the mix. I'd rather have a mad man go after my ankle with a pick axe. At least I could fight back.
I have been given a drug to fight the symptoms. I don't remember the name, but the instructions basically said take one tablet each hour until your
flu-like symptoms make you decide to not take any more no matter the pain. Within 48 hours or so I had a major improvement.
Good luck!
COLCHICINE is the ancient medication.

Thanks all. I have the colchicine for flare-ups and take ibuprofen...believe me, I've done a lot of research on gout. I probably need to get one of
the other drugs besides allopurinal that seems to work. I'd rather do this under a doctor's care in a place where a simple uric acid blood test
doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.
Speaking of costing, I had the foresight to stop at Eye Max in Ensenada to get my new eye checkup for glasses. The cost was only 50 pesos. What a
difference! I picked my new glasses from eyeglassesdirect.com, measured the distance in mm. between my pupils, and got them in a week for $42. Not a
bad deal for those of us on a low budget.

I've heard or read somewhere that a bracelet of copper worn around the joint would help the gout.I don't have gout, but I've wondered if the copper
really helps.

I feel for her...that's pretty much my case too, so far. The newest drug, not yet on the market, is still going through clinical trials in the US,
Canada and Mexico. It's called Puricase, and they are saying that as little as 8mg every two weeks may be able to reduce tophi and eliminate symptoms
of gout. A website that tells about the testing and time schedule is
http://www.bioscreening.net/2006/06/19/savient-pharmaceutica...
What a mouthful! Try google.com with"puricase".
Unfortunately, it's still not available anywhere as far as I know.
Something new for late 2007 if the testing proves out...
