MEXICO CITY ? A man drowned after swimming off the coast of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula while giant waves caused by Hurricane Ileana lashed at the beaches, civil protection authorities said Friday.

Rescue workers pulled the lifeless body of Miguel Angel Centeno, 38, out of the sea near the tourist resort city of Cabo San Lucas on Thursday, said Jose Gajon, director of Civil Protection for the state of Baja California Sur.

?It was completely irresponsible to go swimming during the hurricane. All the beaches had red flags up,? Gajon said.
Ileana strengthened to a hurricane on Tuesday as it moved northward along Mexico's Pacific coast, and by Wednesday its winds reached speeds of more than 115 mph (184 kph), smashing the beaches with waves and unleashing torrential rain onto coastal towns.

However, on Friday, Ileana was steadily weakening, with winds down to 80 mph (130 kph), and it was heading west into open sea.

First let me say that I am truly sorry for this man's family

But this report is bogus. It makes it sound like we had 115mph winds and lots of rain....we had neither.

FYI
