Pole Line Road Maps?
I remember someone posted a couple of topo maps of Pole Line Road. I can't seem to find them on the forum nor in my files. Can anyone link me to those
or re post. A group of us are going to consider this and some other trails/spots before the Baja 1000. Thanks, John

Thanks! Plotted it on my latest edition of the Almanac. Any idea how many trail hour from the southern most part of Laguna Salida to the Hwy. Let's
say 4 capable rigs. Well, actually 3 capable rigs and maybe a VW Thing.

If you don't get lost (easy to do!), an easy two days. If you pushed and got an early start and had no flats, etc., you could do it in one day but I
never had and do not recommend it. Three days in more fun. Lots of things to explore on the way:
Explore Canyons Palomar (and Rancho Palomar) and Isabel.
Visiting Rancho Palmitas is a little iffy, they are not always friendly (seriously). If you go there, park at the crest overlooking the oasis and send
a hot chick down to see if it is OK.
Explore the palm grove, grinding slicks, hunting blind upstream where you hit Jaquegel.
Go past Basketball Hill to see the dry waterfall where Enmedio joins Jaquegel.
If you must do a speed run, then do not go by Canyons Palomar and Isabel, instead go by Ejido Guardines de la Patria and straight south to Cajabuzo
Junction.

A stock VW Thing may have a clearance problem on Basketball Hill. They don't have much fender room for bigger tires, I seem to recall.

If you reach the dirt at Hwy 2 outside of Mexicali by 9 a.m., you can make it to the "Perfect Cobblestone Hill" right before dusk - if you don't get
lost along the way, only stopping for 10-100s and keeping your speed at the recommended 10 m.p.h. limit on this course.
Day 2 you can accomplish the rest of the trail, reaching the massive lower Jaquegel and driving across that wash towards Ejido Saldana. Note: It is
easy to get lost trying to descend into Jaquegel - you will need a navigator to stay atop the berm to help guide your group across the mile wide wash.
At Ejido Saldana, you will need GPS to help find Hwy 5 since the road snakes north, then west then north, then south, then east. Get a real early
start - 7 a.m. on your last day should get you out, but there will be some footwork needed to connect you with the road since some portions will have
you driving down the Jaquegel instead of on the road. Bringing a 2WD vehicle is a serious liability, and it would be safer to leave that rig at home.
There are some serious hillclimbs that cannot be renegotiated in 2WD if a mistake is made. We had a Jeep teeter on a cliff and if it didn't have 4WD
(or if the rig behind didn't have a winch) , the driver may have been injured badly. Take your time, this is a serious trail with real tough
sections. If you drive this trail at night, you're taking your life in your own hands...

Are any of you "off roaders" going down to help. It seems like motorcycles, jeeps, atvs would be really helpful in getting supplies / info in and out
of the rural areas. It would be great if there could be a relief 1000  Just
trying to help. Love.
