Cabo and back - itinerary?
Baja Gurus, lovers, buffs, experts, …
Let’s say you’ve got 15 days , a motor home, a jeep, a crazy girl, no pets and no kids. But you have the urge to go all the way to Cabo San Lucas (and
hopefully back).
I am definitely NOT part of Baja 1000, so about 250 miles a day will do it for me..
Question: When and where would you go (and stop), what itinerary would you follow? Only motor home? Only with the jeep? Both? Leave the crazy girl at
home?
I am looking for some insights and tips off the beaten path. I am not a Baja expert, but would love to get the most out of those 15 days ...
Thanks in advance for your input (and wisdom).
Cheers
Will

I would recommend a day snorkeling the Cabo Pulmo reef. It's only about an hour from the main highway so it wouldn't require a lot of your time. It's
the finest coral reef in baja and it virtually reaches the surface of the water so it really takes no special equipment to enjoy it. It's a reserve
and the fish will swim right up to your face mask.
If your trip is in the winter (you never said when you're going) you might spend an afternoon frolicking with the gray whales in Laguna San Ignacio.
You would hire a panguero at San Ignacio to take you out into the lagoon. That's an experience you can only get in baja.
Two weeks seems like a long time but it's really not so for a first timer I would not plan on a single time consuming foray into an offroad location
that will use all of your time up. Try to get a taste of everything.
I would spend a day or two at Bay of Los Angeles. Take that dirt road north of town to that spit extending to Isla Smith, La Gringa. A very beautiful
place.
On the way down I would drive off road around Catavina and camp among the boulders. That's a must stop for the night. It will remind you of the
landscape at Joshua National Monument.
Hope this helps as a starter. The others will undoubtedly give you more ideas.

definately poke around that thread to get a sense of what you'll need to take. My experience has been that most rookie baja headaches usually involve
a vehicle, and a reason why said vehicle is unable to move.
What are you looking for? Surf? Fish? Isolation? Discoteches? Give us more to go on! There is a lifetime of exploration in baja so as a first time
venture, I might focus on something in each direction and then fan out from there.

thank you for all the fish
I’ve lived in Arizona and Alaska for quite a while, so I think I am ok with off-roadin’. My YJ is proper equipped: winch, tires, hatch, shovel, 6
inch lift, … So vehicle shouldn’t be a problem.
I am looking for a ‘standard’ tour down Hwy 1. A tour with secret spots, impressions and an WOW effect. A ‘standard’ tour not in a sense of STANDARD,
more to pass on to other people who want to explore this peninsula. Do I make sense somehow?
A tour you guys would recommend to a friend/family member/… to get a multifaceted insight into this wonderful country. I am aware that 15 days can’t
cover it all. And I am sure even 15 years won’t cut it either.
All you guys either live at Baja or have extensive travel experience into it. Maybe connections? I would love to run into some spots and stops I
wouldn’t have found without your wisdom.
My ‘crazy girls’ just stands for an very adaptable person. Yes, she does have a little black dress, but also feels very comfortable in hiking shoes
and knows how to dig a sh&* hole.
So maybe we all can develop a ‘Nomad’ tour, which would be the ‘standard (incl. all secrets) tour of this forum??.
Dunno. But I do appreciate your ideas.

Wow, the choices are so many!
My web site is full of ideas (trip photo pages)... The trip I introduced Baja Angel to the peninsula (in 3 days) covered several sites in Northern
Baja you can get to on or near Hwy. 1... http://vivabaja.com/105 (San Fernando mission and petros, Cataviña petros, L.A. Bay, Montevideo petros...). Continue on to Mision San Borja: http://vivabaja.com/401/page7.html Just around El Rosario is great: http://vivabaja.com/505 Las Pintas is fantastic: http://vivabaja.com/pintas
Too much to list! Just have fun!!

You can do an awful lot in 15 days. Get South! Check out San Ignacio.... and Mulege (although the storm damage may have changed that area).... and
Bahia Conception beaches. La Paz is a must! In my opinion, depending on what you are wanting, blow through Cabo.... and go up to Todos Santos and
head back up. There are many places to stop along the way.

Todos Santos is a gem. Eat at the Cafe Sante Fe for dinner. There are some really isolated beaches around Bahia Conception. San Francisquito is a
great place. Cocos Corner would probably be a good stop.
