Who's going to the Off Road Expo Oct. 7 & 8?
In Pamona...
Think we will head up there Sunday about 10 from Oceanside.
Last year we met up with The Squarecircle, BajaLou, TW. The year before with Surfer Jim...
I will take my GMRS walkie talkie and monitor channel 4 (?) for other Nomads... I plan on wearing my new Baja Nomad shirt from Doug and a 'got baja?'
hat.
The Off Road Expo is a super show if you are into four wheeling, Jeeps, Toyotas, camping and off road racing.

I'm going to go I think. Sunday - try to be at Checkers Booth at noon (like last year) - Don't know if I have a GMRS radio with me or not (still in
the old country finishing our vacation).

And in the San Felipe area - check out Valle Chico area

I was thinking about taking the fam on sunday, but is it really more then a bunch of oversized monster trucks reving engines in the parking lot? Is
there some good camping stuff and relevant info for people who are as much interested in the destination as they are the journey (even if it doesn't
entail a 15 mile raock crawl)?

No (or very few ) monster trucks...mostly it is about the hardware....trucks, buggies, and parts for them ...more for the race /prerunner/ desert
travel crowd.....small amount of camping things perhaps and I would be surprised to see much if anything about destinations....
If you have never seen it would be worth going I would say....there WILL be things there that you would want to see and have.....

The rock crawing demos are really fun to watch even if you are not into that part of 4 wheeling.
There are several tents full of off road gear stuff for your Jeep, Tacoma, or whatever you take to Baja.
You will see some pretty wild off road prep'd vehicles and racers.
I want to see the Baja 1000 map and the camping gear stuff, along with the things I mentioned above.
Directions are easy from San Diego:
I-5 North to Santa Ana
Exit Hwy. 57 North to I-10 East (be careful to not fork onto Hwy. 60)
Exit Fairplex and go north to the Show in the big fairgrounds.

I plan on going Saturday morning 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. I will be with my friends Mike Hendrick and Anita Reusterholtz. Here is everyone's picture. Oh,
and I'll be wearing my 'Rubicon Owners of California' - a 4WD club I co-founded 3 yrs. ago.

Mike is on left, Anita is next to Mike, and I am behind Anita:

I will also be going on Sunday. Checkers booth at noon. If I'm late for some reason will be back at the Checkers booth at 1pm. I could wear my T shirt
that says "This is not a beer belly but a fuel cell for a sex machine". But my wife probably won't let me so I won't.
There is a booth or two that sell trail guides and books that I think cover CA, NV, Baja and maybe AZ. I picked up a couple last year.
See you.

I went today (Saturday). I got Roger Mitchell to autograph his latest 'Death Valley SUV Trails' book for me. I also talked with Desert Bull and
watched the UROC Rock Racing event. It was a great time, and I loved every minute of it. Be sure to go if at all possible. My .02

Baja Angel and I had a great time... rode up with The Squarecircle and met up with BajaLou and TW... So much to see... Our feet and legs were worn!
I took over 100 photos, and will share a few for those of you who were not there.
The Baja 1000 looks about the same as 2004: Ensenada to San Felipe to Gonzaga to L.A. Bay to San Ignacio to La Purisima... then the new section to
Loreto via Canipole... up to San Javier... then some more new stuff on to La Paz!
However, there could be major changes in what the map shows, it says!
