Suggestions for the trip back from Mulege
I am still woking on our itinerary for the November trip and I am up to figuring the return trip. We will be heading north from Mulege that morning
and we figure to drive about 200 miles that day. We will have stayed at all the usual places on the way down so I am wondering if there isn't
someplace besides San Ignacio (staying a night there on the way down)that we should look into?
The 2WD pickup and cabover camper limit our off-road ability some but it seems like there ought to be options to see some new places even on the
dreaded return to the "real world".

Muleje to Guererro Negro is 195 miles, after that is L.A. Bay Junction.
I'd stop in Guererro, then El Rosario is another 200 miles.
El Rosario to Border, little over 200 miles.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Is there anywher new to camp in GN other than the parking lot behind Malamarino ?
Abreojos is another option now that the road is paved all the way.
If you've never been, November is a nice time to go.
Anyone know what the current camping situation is in Abreojos ?
We have camped on the beach and in a friend's lot.

Yes----there is a campground on the lagoon south of GN----by the whale watching area.

Yes, a good dirt road --- flat and part of it through the salt flats. Even after the heavy rains of late 2004 and early 2005, there were only a few
wet spots that were no problem. A few of the campsites, however, were still flooded.
One drives through the salt company's property, but the guard there just takes down information about your vehicle. It is really convenient for going
whale watching.

Opps, here she goes again---
Yes it is where you go to see the whales. Years ago, it was not organized---just drove out and there were pangas there. Now the hijido has a nice
new building with this guy out front.
Well there was a picture here, but in trying to resize it----host site didn't cooperate---crashed instead. 
When you reach the end of the road, you see the building. To get to the camping area, there is a little booth where you pay---forget the amount, but
really cheap, and then the camping area is off to the right.
There are no camping facilities, other than a few pit toliets, but the sites are spread out----if it was not whale watching season, it could be quite
isolated.
Here is our first camping site on the way down in 2005---we don't have the trailer anymore, instead we now have a small truck camper.
They have posted hours of when the first pangas go out, but they are not always accurate. They try to wait for enough people to fill the panga. Last
time we shared our panga with a small tour from town.
The whales are always great- this one is taking a peek at the people in the panga
OK, no more----
Ranger Rick, do you ever spend a night in Catavina? We always enjoy it.

We have camped in the boulder fields (well away from the highway) in the past when traveling with more than one vehicle. I have heard recently that it
is pretty sketchy there now so I don't know if I would do it again unless we have a large group with us. Last year we stopped at our favorite campsite
in the boulders for a short break from driving and found that someone had stripped and cut up a car there.
Isn't there a place that has campsites on the south end of town? I seem to remember hearing that it was OK.

L.A. Bay and Mision San Borja... The dirt road to the mission is about 22 miles long, graded, either way (Rosarito or L.A. Bay Hwy. in...)

Abreojos.....
Camping is still on the beach.. the road is paved except for the last 16 miles.
