Baja Sur Advice Please
To sum it up, I am going down to baja sur in a week and I'll be there for about ten days. I will be taking a couple of kayaks for fishing and diving,
camping on the beach and I plan on hiring a panga for a couple of trips. Where would you go? I want to spend a couple of days on the Pacific and a
couple on the Cortez.
On the Pacific side, where would I go to launch the kayak and fish/dive inshore and camp on the beach? I don't want to get too far off the path
because my rig is not 4WD. I'm thinking of Scorpion Bay/San Juanico or the Mangroves Northernmost part of Mag Bay.
On the Cortez side I was trying to decide on where in the Santa Rosalia/Mulege area. Maybe Pta. Chivato or San Lucas Cove. I also plan on hiring a
panga for a day, how much should that cost me?
What happens if the weather comes up? Are there any spots I can hide from it? Maybe Bahia Concepcion on the Cortez and Mag Bay on the Pacific?
I would like to do some snorkleing/spearfishing, is this legal? What kind of restrictions are there?

San Lucas Cove on the Cortez side is a great place to launch your kayak and spend some time fishing. There are a number of very nice people that live
part time there to mingle with. Most of them leave during summer because it gets to darn HOT.
Make sure you obtain your Mexican fishing license and boat permit for your kayaks. On the boat permit form where they ask for a registration number
enter "kayak". Some people say you don't need a boat permit for a kayak but the officials told me that you do. Unless you want to risk loosing your
kayak, get a boat permit.
Give us a trip report when you return and have a great time.

In the Mulege area, I'd consider Chivato now that the north winds appear to have started. You will have a larger, more interesting area to potentially
fish and spear (not sure of the legality, others will post) in somewhat wind protected areas. You can get out early to the islas and the shoals and
you should be able to gt back to camp in time if you notice the wind starting. Also, the area from the true Pta. Chivato all the way to the hotel has
some marginal protection from the north winds.
Kinda boring inside SLC if the wind is blowing outside and there is NO visibility in there.
Best protection in the event of a storm would be Concepcion.

We kayak fished the north mag bay mangroves, incredible fishing, carefull with 2 wheel drive, and budy camp so someone watches camp when your not.
lots of non-fishing, panga "activities", mostly at nite. We took three rigs in and had a great time, enjoy

A group of kayak fisherfolks just left San Roque, close to Bahia Asuncion and said it was the best spot they EVER kayak fished before and cant wait to
come back...they stayed a week and fished every day as well as kayaked to San Roque Island and went fossil hunting in the afternoons.

Escaping the wind
I'll back up the suggestion regarding Mag Bay. The mangroves are so thick there and the passages between them so narrow that you will have dead calm
conditions no matter how bad the wind gets.
I'm not a kayaker but it seems to me that Mag Bay would be a kayaker's paradise. There are all those waterways to explore. A great place for small
game fishing and also bird watching. Not very good for spearfishing however. Two wheel drive should not be a problem when done thoughtfully.
You might consider the Cabo Pulmo area for kayaking on the Cortez side. You can't fish there but there is good diving over the coral reef and a
beautiful place for general exploration. Conception Bay has been mentioned and I would rate that highly also.
