Thanks!

Great shots, Natalie Ann. Nice way to start my day in the (cold) north...

And the Rumi quote is a great one too!

bbbait, Cypress, Diver, B'gypsy, DavidK, Ken, djh...... Thank y'all so much. Images of Baja always help take the chill out of these autumn days.

Ira - you're almost there! I'm looking forward to meeting you and the fam along the way.

djh - Rumi... yes. I have a thang for those ancient poets. You'll find 'em wandering through my tag all the year long.

Kate - The destruction caused by this hurricane/flood is beyond the scope of anything I'd imagined. The landscape is quite different along the new widened path of the rio . Many many folks lost homes, possessions... a friend. For some the ability to make a living was lost, at least for awhile. Yet among the people one feels a particular sense of determination to rise above.

These photos represent that what I saw in the people of Mulege.

No snow yet...

Hey Bruce,

No snow yet. . . . and I hope it waits a few more weeks so I can get the leaves, needles, cones, acorns, and chestnuts all cleaned up from my mini arboretum ! !

THEN the serious shovelling may begin..... I'll be needing a big dose of Baja Sur (and more physical therapy :?: ) about Dec. / Jan. ! !

I'll try to attach a photo (from home this eve) of the beautiful fall colors at our humble casa in N. Idaho.... I can't imagine the Northeast being any more colorful right now that it is right outside our door / windows.

In a perfect world.... we'd likely live in N. Idaho May - Nov., then our much loved Loreto Dec. - April, with time out for trips and musical tours in Korea, Taiwan, China, and Europe... (I'm still feeding my music addictions - and I have a "new" (very old) cello that likes to travel and play as much as I do!!)

I'm working in that direction!!! But for today, I'm thankful for the beautiful Mulege Sunrise shared by our friend Natalie Ann !

Natalie Ann,
Thank you for the photos. Are you still there? If not, when will you return to Mulege? I was there the first three weeks of October cleaning out my casita in The Orchard. Damage worse than I thought. Didn't get to finish. Will return around Jan 1. Stop by when you are there (#90) and watch the progress.

In the mean time, your pictures momentarily replace the destruction images. Even the lighthouse as an island (land spit washed out) looks beautiful.

Gato, Morgaine, TinaMarie, Tony - thanks for your kind words.

Tony - we were in the Orchard clearing out a friend's place about the same time you were doing yours. And yeah, "damage much worse than we thought" - it's difficult to comprehend even after being there. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, and of course wish you the best as you clean up, repair. I'll send a u2u, look ya up come January.

The sunrise shot had me very confused for a while. I remember being able to drive down the beach to the base of the lighthouse. I'll dig through my old photos to see if I captured the scene before hurricane John.
Thanks for the cool photo.

Bajadogs - Yep, el rio has widened, swallowing a fair amount of land along the way. At the end of that road there is still a beach and El Patron is still serving folks... but gone is the land mass connecting the beach to lighthouse rock. Pangueros and gringos have had to find new locations to launch from.

This aerial photo, while not the best shot, does show how it used to be. I'd like to see your picture - hope ya find it to post.
