Mike's to Meling
After you cross the water going into Mike's go left. It was the race course for the Baja 500 this year. After 6 miles of rough driving there is a Y.
Left goes out thru Meling ranch property another 6 miles of OK driving to the paved road. Going right stays on the race course and is OK no really bad
sections. It comes out at Rancho El Coyote. Go left to the paved road. When going into Mike's and cross the water go right and up the famous hill. 3+
miles is the Simpson turn off to the right. Another .5 miles is a very little used road to the left. Theturn off is a wide area but you may need to
look hard for the road do to over growth. In 3 miles it joins the race course road. It can be a challenge watch for rocks going up the hill. You'll
also across a couple of ditches so be careful. You may need to get out and walk them first. Now where you made this turn past the Simpson turn off if
you keep going straight there is another turn to the left in 2 miles. There is a sign for El Coyote. It can be challenging too so take it easy. In 2
miles it joins the race course road. I've attached a rough map of the area.

For some reason I can't get the map to post even through it's 38k. I get an error that says something about setting header debug. I try something
else.

Milage and hours from mex. 1:
Take road north to El Coyote and Mike's: 30.1 mi., 0:55 hrs., 2,611', 30°58.60', 115°45.91'
El Coyote driveway west (go east for Mike's): 34.8 mi., 1:08 hrs., 2,958', 31°02.23', 115°45.50'
Los Encinos road east (go north for Mike's): 39.3 mi., 1:41 hrs., 3,405', 31°03.43', 115°42.17'
Alternate (northwest) road in from El Coyote: 41.5 mi., 1:57 hrs., 3,852', 31°04.33', 115°41.12'
Rancho Simpson and Tepi road to north: 43.4 mi., 2:09 hrs., 4,570', 31°05.18', 115°39.72'

Driving around mikes can be fun sepecially before the rain season starts. Another road trip is to take the road south shown above just left of the R.
LaJolla sign on the observatory road. It's a 30+ mile drive with interesting water crossings. I did a trip report on it from last new years. It's been
used for the Baja 1000 race a few times in the past several years.

Try the one that's off the newly paved road, due south for several miles (on the bottom right corner of your map, below the hand written l in La
Jolla) . Then west for about 15 miles and finally northwest for another several miles. We did that one in Rally Mode last year before the racers came
through on the 1000. Talk about seperating the men from the boys. If you didn't have top shelf suspension (springs, shocks and bump stops) you limped
home after about 15 miles.
