BAJA PITS TEAM RESULTS 2006 Baja 1000
Baja Pits run by Carlos Orozco had 110 entries to service along with Team Locos Mocos. We (TheSquarecircle, Baja Angel, Josh and I) helped out at Pit
#7 (of 20), Race Mile 328, El Crucero. http://www.bajapits.com
I just went to the SCORE web site http://www.score-international.com and got the results.
Here's how Baja Pit team members did (only those that made it to La Paz and finished are listed):
Trophy Trucks: 10th, 12th, 16th place
Class 1: 2nd, 7th, 9th, 12th, 13th place
Pro Truck: 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th place
Score Lite: 2nd, 7th, 10th place
Class 1/2-1600: 1st, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th place
Class 3: 3rd place
Class 5: 3rd place
Class 5-1600: 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th place
Class 8: 4th, 6th place
Class 10: 2nd, 3rd place

David, I am not familiar with "Baja Pits"
Is this the modern version of our old collective team "FAIR" (First Association of Independent Racers)?
We generally raced with the FAIR team and they usually pitted about 10% of the entries,
we all provided one pit crew for support and for hauling 'stuff' to that pit.

Carlos has operated Baja Pits for 21 years, so it is not exactly a new organization... But newer than the old SCORE or NORRA days of Chapala Dusters,
Checkers, Mag 7, Los Campeones, FAIR, etc. If you get Dusty Times, Carlos has a column along with some of the other pitting organizations.

Carlos has a wheel shop in El Cajon and holds pit meetings on the third Thursday of the month in Santee... I am sure volunteers would be welcome, but

Sounds just like our old FAIR team, which was really efficient for the independent on a budget.
(remember when we could finish in the money in the truck class with a total investment of under $10k and two guys a support truck to chase us?)

Fair is still around, though I know little about them. Baja pits/Mag 7/Loco's Moco's are the only pay to pit organizations that do a full set of pits
for the Baja races. They have had there share of problems with fuel and customs issues. They bounce back and are the only option for guys not
running on BFG's or members of the Checkers. Loco's went back to there roots this year and set up a remote "we fix stuff free pit".

My hat goes off to all the pit groups like Baja Pits. To run the Baja 1000 to La Paz it takes a lot of support both from pits to chase vehicles. This
is especially true for those running for a class championship or a class win. I'm also gratefull that these guys and gals help anyone needing it. It
may come to a little gas, water, rest or a weld or two or tire repairs and they provide it. I've used Kawasaki when they were involved several years
ago in Baja and it was a great service as I'm sure Honda is now. It's not easy to get a bunch of people together and coordinate the supplies etc. for
this, people like Carlos deserve a big hand.

How times have changed!
Chuck and I took second in the trucks in 1972 Mexican 1000. We had a pit crew at the turnoff above San Felipe, after we left the pavement, in fact it
was the reigning West COast NASCAR champion, Jack McCoy that pitted us there. Then we had no support to La Paz. We did have a radiator leak and
Stroppes guys gave us a can of StopLeak at El Arco.
In those days NORRA supplied the gas, usually out of the local town pumps, and very few teams carried their own.
When SCORE took over we had to provide our own gas so we joined up with FAIR and that was very good.

I would also say congratulations to the solo riders who made it. I didn't check on all of them but I saw where Anna Cody did finish. For a lady, I
think that says a h*ll of a lot. 33+ hours for her.

I salute the ironman/woman too. I was trying to find info about rob barnum, a ironman competitor, but it looks like he didnt finish? anyone know his
story?

Hola race fans,
Gadget here with team Locos Mocos. Thanks to David K for the finisher results for those that pitted with us. It's great to see a couple class
winners! We want to see all the racers finish, but Baja has other ideas. Our own crew suffered mucho breakage this race. To Geronimo, our moto, "we
fix stuff free " is and will always be alive and well. That's what we do. My son and I work the northern of two pits LM ran for Carlos this race,
one at Gonzaga and the southern at El Datil. We worked 16 straight hours, dumped 400+ gallons of fuel along with everything else we do and fixed many
non-signed racers for free. One example was a chase crew came into the pit looking for welding on their fragged A arm off their class 8 truck. I
welded on it and the control arm for close to an hour patching it back together. They couldn't believe we wouldn't take any money for it. " Just
finish is all we want ". They left, as many do, with a new purpose and optimism. That's what keeps us coming back. Also mentioned was past issues
BajaPits has had. I was the pit captain for the '04 1000 south of Bay of LA when the fuel delivery fiasco happened. You can read the whole tail on
our site at www.locosmocos.com. We were for sure down after that one, but not out. Carlos is one tough dude. He's taken plenty of hits and learns from his
and others mistakes. Join us some time.

Welcome to the Nomads. Just want the clarify that I am a Locos fan. You guys found helped out our lost and confused customers last year at the Mil
in the 1449 car. That 9 car had a vintage Baja 2000 Locos sticker on it. I no Nugel from the Queso, hope to get to pit with you guys one of these
days. My pit report is in the Trip report section.

Copy that. Thanks for the welcome. I signed on here looking for ways and info to help after Hurricane John. Made contact with all kinds of good
info and people before we heading south to help. Just checking out posts on the race and here I find people talking about us. Cool! This site is
staying on my favorites list.
