towed in TJ!!!

well...my WORST nightmare happened Sunday...

at dusk my dually stoped running in Tijuana right where all the cars are...near the border...before the big u-turn...horrible location

luckly the police were conducting a seatbelt-safety check...

I asked an officer to call a tow truck for me...
he spoke a little english.

the tow truck came but had trouble lifting the diesel truck...they are REAL heavy.

the police ended the safety check but the same officer stayed to make sure I was OK...nice guy...they aren't ALL bad

the tow truck guy drug me by chain to the 24hr pemex at the old u-turn...lots of lights...tow $40

He called another tow truck for me on his cell phone that could tow me across the border WITH my trailer...
times have sure changed...no radios...just cell phones

he towed the dually and the trailer across the border and to a dodge dealer...2 hour border wait
price $400...thank god for insurance
no problems with the USA guys

fuel pump went out but was under warranty....no charge from the dealer and was fixed monday afternoon

"DODGED" another bullet...

here is a contact if you break down and need to be towed to the USA...

Abe's Towing
Abraham Lopez
Telephone 685-43-01
Address:
Calle 7#7767
Tijauna BC

Abe said he'd pick up any truck from any town south of the border and tow it to the USA as needed...

just have $$$

Hey Bob,

If that is your WORST nightmare.... you should sleep soundly now, right ? As we've all been reading lately on our Bbd... it could have been much worse!

Glad you and yours are all ok, and that no one was injured or traumatized - and glad you had the warranty and insurance too ! !

No pun intended.... but . . . "Keep on truckin ! "

That is shear luck in itself that you made it all the way to the border before your truck broke down! Can you imagine if it had happened in Catavina?

My previous truck's transmission puked up all of it's tranny fluid at the Rosarito toll booth after coming back from La Bocana. The attendant at the booth called a tow truck that is assigned to the Toll road and told me that it would be $40. Perfect, I thought! The tow truck showed up, hooked me up and away we went. Got a mile or so down the road and for some chit/chat I commented, "so, this tow will be $40?"

He looked back at me and said, "amigo, $40 will only get you halfway there!" Still a bargain, my buddy and I laughed as we counted nearly the last of our money between us. The border line was empty at San Ysidro, he hooked a U turn at the booth, and backed me right in. That was when our Military were on the border, it took about 8 soldiers to push that crew cab!We called AAA from there for a ride home, with the truck to be unloaded the next day.

All in all, not a bad trip, thank god for warranty's too, the whole thing cost me $50 for a new tranny from the dealer!

I thought that the insurance on the toll ticket was to pay for all towing.:light:

He would have been off the toll road at that point, and my recollection was that the toll insurance only covers you when you are on the toll road. Anyone have contradictory info?

Boy, those Dodge's are famous for lift pump problems. They aint cheap, either, at the dealer?? What'd it run, if I might ask?

There are aftermarket ones that are cheaper and better. Consider getting one, installing it and using the new one as a backup.

Newer Dodges have a fuel pump by the engine. There is a recall that is retrofitting them to a lift pump because of problems... go figure.
