Camping spot at La Ribera?
Is there a nice campground at La Ribera? Cabo Frailes?
We are currently on the East Cape at Las Barriles. We'd like to go down the east coast to San Jose Del Cabo. Not really interested in the high-life
nite spots, though. Any suggestions?

Rick, Your inquiry comes at the strangest of times. Normally I would have told you the La Ribera trailer park/campground has been closed for a long
while but our beach is the best camping around BUT the north wind and the hightide (full moon 7 ft) have combined to put our beach under water. Check
iwindsurf weather and it will predict the wind for you because you won't find many places now with shelter. If I were you I would camp where you are,
take wonderful day trips from La Ventana to Miraflores and all the canyons and dive places nearby (weather permitting) -- it is always calm up in the
canyons and all the roads are good for rental type cars. (don't tell the regular touristas).

I've not heard the conditions of the East Cape road. Anybody know if it's passable?

You shouldn't have any trouble on the East Cape road now. The beach mentioned above is Los Arbolitos, not supposed to camp but many people do. Great
snorkling, no sign to it on the East Cape road but I think it is about 2 or 3 km past the dive shop.

I also recommend Los Frailes beach, which we stayed at a week ago, right across from the yahts. Its a beautiful place, but if you are going to dive
on your own forget it. We brough our boat and were told at both dive shops that we can not dive without a guide at Cabo Pulmo and that they would not
fill our tanks and will call the cops if they see us there. That was a big disapointment for us, and we definatelly did not have the funds to dive
with a shop for $70 bucks/person. Good luck.

It's hard to tell what the truth is with the Cabo Pulmo Guide people. Two years ago they were threatening to kick us off the beach at Los Frailes. I
personally had one of them try to cut me off with his Panga when I was returning from fishing. They think anyone down there should be paying them. I
don't think they have any real authority. The man from the Govt in Miraflores came out and told us there was no problem camping there as long as we
were on the beach where the arroyo emptied into the SOC.
