Geothermal facility in Baja Sur

When we drove home last week, I remember driving by the entrance to the steam plant up in the mountains, and noting the gate was open, and road paved & no guard & I thought I saw a sign that said Motel???????? Anyone been up there & can report on the motel? What's it like.? Is it worth the time to go up to it? What's there when you get there?
Might like to take it in on the way south to Loreto in January.
Besides stopping by & seeing Juan & Shari.

Knowing little of Baja Calif Sur, what kind of steam facility are you talking about? and about where is it located. Sounds interesting.

Sorry. I was tired when I typed that post. It's the geothermal facility in Baja Sur. Can't right now tell you exactly where it's located. In BAja Sur.
Snuggled to the N.E. up in the mts. You can see the steam coming from the buildings way in the distance. I know tons of Nomads have been there. Just need someone who has been there recently to tell about the "motel" that must be there now????????

I went in a month ago ... there is NO hotel (so said the dudes at the station) ... at least only the Borrego station where one MIGHT stay if you are taking a hunting trip. $35K US for a trophy (i.e., only aging males out of the gene pool). 350-sheep herd.

The geothermal energy farm is on the slopes of the Tres Virgenes/ Reforma volcano system... The paved road to it heads north from Hwy. 1 between Santa Rosalia and San Ignacio... I noticed that back on December 30, 2001.

Lou it is like the one next to Cerro Prieto volcano south of Mexicali... only newer.

This looks like the geothermal plant on Google Earth: N27 30 22.85, W112 33 33.13
Also, see mine visible at N27 31 55.16, W112 33 45.88
Is that improved road going north from the highway open to the public? Or do the miners and geothermal guys got it closed off?
Also, I always wondered, is all hiking and climbing of Tres Virgenes limited to guided trip, or can one get a permit and do climb and x-country hikes on their own?

Thanks for the locations.

I figured it must be similar to the Mexicali development, but hadn't heard of it.

I have been there many times. Was to the plant last week. they are drilling another hole for an additionial generator. I also talked to the sheep hunter that got the first tag as a cost of $65,000.00 us. They were on the first day bof the hunt so they were just looking. We work with the remote boarding schools and have a letter from the govenor to let us have travel at will. When talking to the people at the well you need special permission to go into that area. we have only been checked twice in five years. If you have time it is worth the trip in and out which takes about two hours and paved all the way. one lane only.

Phil
they have a few rooms just up the road about 3/4 a mile on the hill on the left and are going to build more. During hunting they are for the hunters and guides. When I was tlaking to them the other day they told me to stop by in feb. and stay with them.
