Never Leave on a Friday ?
The last time we left for Baja on a Friday was Jan. '93. I remember because it was the El niño year of torrential rains and we were stuck between
washed out bridges in San Quintin for an extra 2 weeks.
Our traveling friends commented "That's what we get for leaving on a Friday".
I'd never heard of this superstition, err aaa "Rule" before this, but we haven't chanced it since that trip. (haha)
Looks like we're not going to be ready to leave on Thursday, so we may have to live dangerously if we want to get to BCS.
Anybody know the origin of this "Never leave on a Friday" stuff. Any experiences? Any antidotes to the negative juju during travel?

I almost always leave for Baja on a Friday
But then i like living on the edge. Sometimes I even drive at night

i thought the saying was never START anything new on a friday. since you have been organizing for the trip BEFORE friday, i think you're safe.
phil c is right, get to the border before 2pm. the wait after 2pm, and especially at 5pm, could be days.

Never leave port on an ocean voyage, on a Friday...
...is an old Sailor's belief... another is you shouldn't rename a sailing vessel - more bad luck!
Luck is what you make of it...one just never knows what's around that next bend of the road...or down in that unseen Vado on hwy 1....

Leave after work Friday (or sooner)... Drive to Baja Cactus in El Rosario for that first, easy night sleep... Starting the fun part of a Baja trip
Saturday morning, already 225 miles south of the border, really makes a difference!

Very good advice David. It takes a well rested body and alert
mind to safely take on what Mexico 1 can dishout.
El Rosario is a good place to stop. Even in the old days it was your last shot at "civilization and supplies" for many miles. Now days its still true
for at least fuel.

That was an abandoned truck body in the sand on the beach about a mile from Gypsy's , south of San Quintin. We all took turns climbing in it and
getting our picture taken.
We usually leave friday night late so we miss the So Cal traffic but we now live in Prescott AZ and will be leaving on our next trip on a friday Mar

Here's some of our favorite superstitions from the site that vgabndo suggested:
Since the 1700’s, it has been widely believed that having a banana on board was an omen of disaster.
Black traveling bags are bad luck for a seaman.
Avoid people with red hair when going to the ship to begin a journey.
Avoid Flat-footed people when beginning a trip. They, like red heads, are bad luck. The danger can be avoided by speaking to them before they speak to
you.
Never say good luck or allow someone to say good luck to you unanswered. If someone says “good luck” to you, it is most assuredly a bad omen and sure
to bring about bad luck. The only way this can be countered is by drawing blood. A swift punch in the nose is usually sufficient to reverse the
curse.
Disaster will follow if you step onto a boat with your Left Foot first.
Pouring wine on the deck will bring good luck on a long voyage. An offering to the gods.
Throwing stones into the sea will cause great waves and storms.
Flowers are unlucky onboard a ship.
Priests are not lucky to have on a ship.
Don’t look back once your ship has left port as this can bring bad luck. Looking back to port implies that you are not truly ready to brave the seas
and complete your voyage, bringing about bad luck on yourself and the ship.
A dog seen near fishing tackle is bad luck.
Black cats are considered good luck and will bring a sailor home from the sea.

I've always left on a friday when I was still working for a living. Now being 50% bald with white hair makes fridays lucky...I guess
Yes 200 miles south of border eliminates any superstition - even red haired ones  .
BigWooo -have a good trip.
