Morro Bay Today
Got back in the water again today, here are some results. The water is really warming up, it was a toasty 54F today!
The Hermissendas are still here in great numbers:

Looks like you had a good day diving, Ken.
I am always amazed by these little sea critters. The texture on that starfish - both his top and his underside - how could I have never noticed how
intricate it is?! And that first hermit crab - the one with the 3-D eyes and the hairy legs and claws - something that lovely hiding inside such a
dreary shell - I love it!
I don't dive... but your photos are most definitely the next best thing. Thank you very much.

Ken,
Can you share what photographic equiment you use? Do you use flash? Is it digital or film? Do you do much post processing? Is it a underwater
dedicated camera or a shielded conventional?
Very impressive shots you share. Thanks so much.

Thanks very much Natalie Ann. I can't resist hermit crabs, they are such bizarre and beautiful little animals. tripledigitken these are digital, I
use a Fuji S2 Pro in a Subal housing with two Sea and Sea YS-90DX strobes. These were made with the Nikon 60mm lens. I don't use much post
processing, I will crop and adjust the contrast a little but I generally leave the colors pretty much the way the sensor sees them.

Thanks Natalie Ann and Cypress. There's kind of a story associated with the last fringehead photo, the one with the big wooger in his mouth. He was
one of the biggest individuals I've ever seen in Morro Bay, he pretty much filled up the 2" PVC pipe. He poked his head out as they usually do (can't
resist seeing what is going on out there), and let me fire off a few "conventional" head photos, and then I got this wild-hair idea and very gently
put a small piece of bottom rubble just inside the pipe on the bottom edge. The fringehead gently picked it up and spit it out, just past the end of
the tube. I picked it up again and put it back in the tube. The fish again picked it up and spit it out. We did several rounds of this, it was like
playing "fetch" with my bulldog Sarah. In fact the fringehead kinda looks like Sarah in an odd, fishlike way

Cleaning behavior
I noticed that rubble in his/her mouth but decided not to comment on it at first. My guess is that the spitting was his way of keeping his living
space clean. A lot of animals that live in burrows can get very meticulous once their work is complete.

Missed these as we were on the road---dang, as usual, your pictures are fantastic. I have developed a real soft spot in my heart for the fringeheads.
