Gas Stops Between SQ & GN
I work at an English school in SD and I'm prepping one of my teachers who is driving a student group to GN to whale watch. So, since I have not done
the drive recently, can any Nomads give gas stops after San Quintin...we used to hit El Rosario, are the Catavina pumps an option?? and Jesus Maria,
etc.
So, thanks for the info for the PEMEX spots after SQ...I was also trying to remember more or less the KM number for the spot with the arroyo & big
dip in the road going through Catavina. I have a newbie driver so I want him well prepped. I used to live in Mulege so he is having his "Driving HWY
1" course this week before the group leaves SD on Friday am
Thanks to everyone for their help on the PEMEX stops and Catavina info!! Any recent road conditions from the border to GN would also be appreciated!!

El Rosario is 225 miles from the border.. Leave San Diego with a full tank and drive straight to Antonio's station...
It is another 200 miles to Guerrero Negro, so again... no worries getting there...
FYI there was TWO vendors selling in Cataviņa last Saturday... Also always one at least at the L.A. Bay jcn.

Good advice right there. Fill up at El Rosario and its an easy shot to GN. The vendors at Catavina or BoLA turnoff are with 5 gal. cans. They were
life savers when I used to tow to BoLA with my old F-350, before BoLA got a Pemex. Would always stop for 15 gals to get me to El Rosario on my way
home. That old truck was always thirsty. It never saw a gas station it didn't want to stop at. Life is good now with my Duramax/Allison combo

only old old cars need to stop at catavina for gas now....
newer cars and trucks have BIGGER ranges
el rosario ALWAYS is a GREAT stop....
(bathrooms were clean yesterday...thanks antonio)
then...to Villa Jesus Maria
(i really like this station)
gas holding tanks are newer too
you'll be fine

Antonio hired people just to focus on the bathrooms... 24 hours!!!
Now, please know that you Baja Nomads do have input and Antonio does wish to please!!!
Things had slacked off after the terrible events of mid November then poor Antonio was very ill for a month...
Now, things are back in shape and will move ahead with the mini market addition and getting heaters in all the new rooms at Baja Cactus.
The heaters are there, but being electric, required new service and the electricians were there working last Saturday. We didn't have heat in our
room, but were warm enough just knowing we were in a friendly place that was doing all possible to make everything work!
Remember, it's Mexico... and El Rosario is on the edge of civilization in Baja!

my nephew is going on a trip with his class for a week or 10 days. cave at catavina, bola, ojo de libre. but i thought it was in march.

Woody, is your nephew a student at High Tech High? The one at the old NTC? An electrical engineer I know gave a presentation there and said she was
impressed by the kids knowledge and abilities. Wish I had a HTH when I was in school.

Thanks Everyone
I appreciate everyone's input and the students are getting excited as blast off is on Friday am. We had a meeting today where I gave them "Baja
Basics" since we have 6 different nationalities in the group and TJ is their frame of reference for Mexico at this point.
So, I told them to be ready for a great adventure as most of you know how amazing that first drive down the peninsula or your first panga ride to see
the whales can be. Their eyes also went wide when I showed them my pictures of the landscape in Catavina so I'm excited for my newbies.
One last question...they might side trip on the way back to see Bahia de los Angeles...how is the road and remind me of the drive time in more or less
from the HWY 1 exit to town...THANKS AGAIN!!
Maybe I'll have the students write a trip report to post and it would be a great assignment for practicing their English...let's see what they think
about my idea!!

The road is excellent... 42 miles in from Hwy. 1, about an hour including a photo stop or three...

Thanks for the update David and the photos. I was there about 3 years ago and had a blast visiting with my daughter and some friends on our drive back
to SD from Mulege.
I hope my students do a side trip over so they can see the Gulf of CA and the spectacular setting of the Bay & its islands.

The museo, turtle research facility, Punta La Gringa, Las Flores are the sites for students in or near town!
On the way out, Montevideo would be fascinating... the desert scenery along the road and the color rock art! 2 miles from the bay highway on the San
Borja road then 7 miles east... now well signed.

High Tech High is a Learning Network of charter schools.
NTC = Naval Training Center at Point Loma across the street from the original High Tech High.
we NEVER got these kind of trips when i was in school!!!

Time to Hit the Road!!
Thanks again everyone for your help and the group will be leaving SD in about half an hour...I wish that I was going!! So, everyone send their Baja
Nomad positive vibes for them to have a safe drive...the storm clouds seem to have cleared here for now, so hopefully they will have "smooth sailing"
down south!!
