Cell Phones in Baja
When I was down in Punta Chivato last month, my neighbors obtained a cell phone provider called "Moviestar". It worked great. They think it's through
Cingular. They got it down there in Santa Rosalia. But I looked at Cingular's web site and could not find anything about it when I got back. My
question is, can you get it up here and use it here and in Baja. Maybe even get it in Tijuana. That won't be so bad living in San Diego. Any info ya
got is awsome.......thx

I dont know about Movistar as I gave up my mexican cell phone some time ago. I do have a US Cingular that I pay 3 dollars a month for Mexico service
and all my calls in Mexico are free as long as I do not go over my alotted minutes for the month. Also works almost everywhere there is cell service
in Baja. Movistar used to be something else but I cant remember right now.

Sr Fox
they have some kind of radio cellphone they are using now...
works ok here on the beach but costs per minute plus up front equipment
Mexray had an american cell phone that worked ok last year
sometimes he received a signal on the beach but for sure in town
i don't remember the cost
next time you come down come over and use my vonage internet phone
$25 a month
comes with a telephone number USA nummber
rings like a regular phone
hooks to your sat internet system on the beach
computer does not need to be on
free long distance in the USA
low cost to other countries
it DOES cost me 8 cents a minute to call town since its in MEXICO
IS IS NOT PERFECT!!!
sometimes the voice in the USA breaks up
Sometimes PERFECT
what you do is take the vonage box back to the states when you leave...
and bring it back when you return
hook it to your computer at home...
if you have DSL it sounds just like a regular phone $25-30 monthly
ps
i'm not a vonage broker and i'd dump them immediately if a better service came byand...ITS NOT PERFECT!!!

Movistar is available up north.....I got mine in Ensenada. Bought the phone and a prepiad card. I think they are partnered up with Verizon.

Movistar used to be Baja Cellular. Changed names several years ago.

Sorry jerry, I did not know it was no longer available. I will not give that advice again.
