Road to San Junico--Scorpion Bay and general area.
Is the dirt road from the San Ignacio Lagoon road reasonably marked, and does anyone know the current condition. It is one we want to do on the next
trip.
I remember reading something about gates and a ranch, but could not find it in search????
A few years ago, we drove the loop from Loreto to Ciudad Constitution, up to La Purisima and they back out to Hwy 1---the east road, but we did not go
out to Scorpion Bay.
Also, we might want to go to San Jose Comondu, and any recent information about the roads would be appreciated.
Opps, one more. Are there any small posadas in La Purisima or Comondu??
Can't wait to get back on the road

Was in San Juanico last week, February 26th: South road from San Juanico to turnoff at Purisima is in great shape. Road is under construction from
Mesquitel turnoff heading North into town. Did not do Comondu Road, but Wide Open Baja (WOB) reported that the road is in really bad shape. They came
in from Loreto via Comondu and returned via the East road back to Loreto. WOB also came in the week before via San Ignancio to San Juanico and
reported the road/salt flats were in ok shape...no problems

FYI, the paved road near La Poza Grande to the turnoff to San Juanico was chunk full of potholes. The Governor is suppose to come in soon to dedicate
the portion of the road, so the potholes may have been fixed...just be careful!
No information on Posadas in Purisima or Comondu for you...sorry.

South of Comondu
Went from Loreto to San Xavier mid February and those roads were fine, lots of water in the creeks and beautiful greenery on all sides. Headed
toward Comondu and things took a nasty turn for the worse on the grade just north of Rancho Chino - - - looked like the grade had become a riverbed
during the last couple of hurricanes and the ruts were in the one to two foot plus range, with major washouts and basketball sized rocks all over the
place. We got about one third of the way up the grade decided we were being idiots, and turned around.
We had two well equipped 4WD trucks and many years of running crummy trails, so I can say without exaggeration that it would be a mistake to run that
stretch without a Baja 1000 truck or a Caterpillar tractor. We ran into three buggies from Wide Open Baja who had just come from Comondu and said the
trail was 'really bad' but we thought they were just amped up from the ride. Guess not...

Thanks for the info---sounds like Comondu may have to wait for another trip, unless there is another way there that is in decent shape. What about
the road from the west? We don't mind some rough, but don't want the truck eating ruts and basketball boulders.
Also, in the Almanac, I see where the road from San Ignacio to San Janico splits ---appears one to be on the salt flats, and one higher????? Are
they marked at all and which one is the best way to go? Is the one closer to the coast really soft??

North road from San Ignacio to San Juanico is not marked at all. You just need to turn East before you get to the Lagoon, or go to the lagoon and head
east on the salt flats. If you have not done it before, all roads will eventually lead to one or two as you head East. You will swear to yourself many
times that you think you took the wrong road, but that's common! Just head east. This photo was taken before you get to the lagoon at the turnoff that
goes East. The left road will follow below the mountain road and the right one will take you out to the salt flats
