El Nido Loreto
Was in Loreto Monday and noticed that the El Nido restaurant has been renamed. Is it the same owner? Or what is the deal?
If the owner has moved on I sure will miss that place. Have many fond memories of meals, drinks with friends there.
Thanks for any info.

Ate there last nite, new owner, same good food. Think its called Domingos or something like that. Still has good steaks, baked papas and bean sopa

El Nido has changed to Domingo's Place. Domingo is the owner, and has owned it for at least a year, I think much longer, though he just recently
changed the name. While the menu is the same as it was, I think that the quality has improved over the last few years. The beef is better, and the
seafood and Mexican combination are more consistent than they had been.
Domingo has put a lot of work into the ambiance, the outdoor dining space in back is beautiful, and he's sprucing up the indoors now. It is one of our
favorite restaurants here.

Domingo has managed el nido in Loreto for a long time now its called Domingos and he ownes it everything was the same in febuary

A few years ago the SF El Nido advertised 90ct Coronas. The "little prick" bartender told me I was too old and would have to pay full price. the 90ct
deal was only for spring-breakers. I had to suck it in on that on that one because I don't like Mex. jails.

Domingo and his very Blonde "Charo Type" wife arrived from TJ many years ago . He took the Franchise at that point and developed it into the Nicest
Restruant in Town. He also developed the "Quratos ALtos" and the Sore below, which his wife operated for several years, then he opened the "La Papala"
and built the two Store Structure next door as his Home.
Now he will serve you Hot Peppers directly from Plants that I grew and gave to him at least 10 years ago.
He is one of those "Baja Kids" that learned to work and Survive.
A gentleman and a Friend and a Hellva Businessman.
Best Carne Aseado in Baja and the Classyist Bar in Loreto.
Keep on Trucking Domingo.

What is the history of all the El Nido's. Were they all started by one person. When did the Mulege resturant close.

TW...my history is a little hazy, and someone with a better memory can correct me, but...as I remember, El Nido started in the north (Rosarito??), and
expanded to Baja Sur in the early to mid-eighties. The manager of the Mulege restaurant, and another worker, were traveling to Loreto for a company
meeting when they had a bad accident. One was killed, and the other, Ramon, who has the taco stand next door, was badly injured. The company owed so
much from the accident that they chose to close down Mulege. That was in the late eighties, and it has been sitting since...In a nutshell, that's what
I remember...I hope someone can expand and fill in the details...

El Nido
ALL of the El Nido Restaurants were owned by the same person.
The original El Nido was in Rosarito Beach, the second in San Felipe. The manager of the San Felipe venue (Juan) began as a Busboy at the Rosarito
Location.
A "Spring Break" special at El Nido strikes me as ODD since they have (had) always made a point of closing no later than Tuesday during Semana Santa
and remaining closed until after the Breakers had left town. Not having been into town during that period in the last two years, I'm not sure if it's
still the case, but I'll find out shortly.
I was originally introduced to El Nido in Rosarito by my elder friends who lived at Rene's in Rosarito (since the early 50s) during the Summer and San
Felipe (later Percebu) during the Fall - Spring period and were friends with both the owner and the SF Manager, having known him as a little boy.
Alas, I only went to El Nido a few times before it burned down and, for awhile, we feared it would never be rebuilt. It was, of course, and we have
eaten there more often than all other SF restaurants combined.
My friends were so loyal to El Nido and the owner that, once when we went into town and found El Nido closed, they refused to eat at George's because
he had been the Chef at El Nido before going into business next door.

Lupe Perez started the first one in Rosarito, which he still runs, then the one in San Felipe which he still owns. The others further south were
started by his relatives. He also ownes a bunch of other stuff in Rosarito including the Los Pelicanos Restaurant right on the beach and the hotel
right next door.
I count him a friend and a gentleman.......a most interesting guy who also owns a ranch/farm just outside Rosarito where he has a heard of 100 New
Zealand Red Deer which he has featured in his restaurants for years (he is a bit of a health nut and they have far less fat and very little
cholesterol than other red meat. Serves quail eggs also for health reasons..............They are great.
Oh! Now he is having a guy turn the hides into fantastic vests and jackets..............I bought two vests....a natural light red and a black. As
with most Mexicans he seldom wastes anything.
Stop by and say hi and for sure try the food.
I did a story on him in my second book.

Interesting I was glad to get this info because we noticed the name change when we were in Loreto earlier this month. It was definitely confusing to
some people who were arrving and asking "is this El Nido?"
It seemed like the same people there to me but on a Friday night, the restaurant was entirely empty except for us and one large party of grayhairs. I
was wondering why it was so empty.
