How many non-pavement miles (in Baja) have you covered in your lifetime?
This should give us something to ponder...

Wow, I have no idea, but I have been going down there for slightly over 53 years, and most of it has been on dirt roads.
I will have to think about that.

2,000,
Maybe about 2,000 miles over the years for me. Looking forward to more miles on dirt.
Good topic Ken!

I began visiting Baja in1951 ~ the paved road stopped at a theater near Hussongs, every thing south was dirt and unpaved...
Number of miles unpaved? GOK! a lot!
Great question!

Do air miles count? I have about 100,000 air miles in Baja although I did touch pavement at a few paved airstrips on many of those trips . But for most of those miles I was off-pavement. All seriousness aside I probably
have logged about 1000 miles driving off-pavement in Baja.

I swear I must have racked up close to a thousand miles just going back and forth between Camp Gecko and town. I bet the small trips off pavement to
camping spots and such represent a bigger chunk of our off road driving log than we might realize. It's a buttload of miles just to get to and from
the whale whatching places.

True, however the ferry ship had begun service between La Paz and Mazatlan the year before, so we opted to drive back north on pavement to save time.
It took us two weeks to drive down the peninsula (with stops, naturally).

This may not be what you were getting at BUT..............the beach in front of my home in La Salina is almost (was before the marina) 2 miles long
and I figure I walked 6,240 miles there..............throw in the trips to the Cantina, 150 yards and many trips up to the Mesa I figure I walked over
7,000 miles just in La Salina since 1964............

Been going down there since 1984.... probably around 1,000 miles offroad for us. Need to do a lot more! Great question and it makes you think about
the offroad trips you've made in the past. Fantastic memories.

David K and dean miller -
Any photos available from your early trips?
Had to me an amazing experience. I am sorry to see so much new pavement, but things change. As another post said, one nice thing is so much trash has
been cleaned up during the last year along Highway 1.

Wow.. great question Ken. While I can't come up with a number that would even be close to accurate, I would offer up an opinion that the miles
traveled off road leave a far more lasting impression about the sites I've experienced in Baja than any "on-road" travel. So from that point of view,
I want to keep racking up those off-road miles.

Gee, I don't know, but if I can count Marian's miles with mine, and the old dirt road counts as "off road" ....then I have some of you Pavement
