Bajia Asuncion - Wind
I am guessing that because of its location Asuncion gets a lot of wind unless it is protected. Perhaps Shari can enlighten me. Presumably the wind
starts in March and ends ?

i refer to Punta Abreojos as "Punta Biento" this time of year..next couple of months it howls along this coast...can get some AM calm spells, and it
usually settles down at night...but the westerlies will blow your hair off...
still a beautiful hide-away though...cap't g

Yep, March brings on the wind and it it lasts till May. The mornings are lovely and the howling doesn't start usually till mid afternoon and as capt.
says it lays down at night. We get a couple days a week break like today. Most places are built to shelter you from the winds and we just read, have a
siesta or do inside stuff during these hours.

El Viento! That's always been my spring break experience. Howling winds, starting around 9-10a. It's alright for me though. I get a good dawn patrol
session and then switch to cervezas for the mid-day. Siesta and an evening session.

Shari, We will be in Mulege traveling North, thought we would visit your place around the 28th of April. We were thinking about going by way of Punta
Arbreojos. We will be pulling a 28 ft. travel trailer and were not sure if that is a good idea. Wondering about road conditions and wind velocity
since we will be pulling the trailer. We are pulling with a 3/4 ton Dodge Diesel with 4 wheel drive.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thank you in advance. Leaving Valley Center on the 20th of April for Los Naranjos.

Art & Alice,
This is not Shari, but we just drove that road the first part of March.
Asuncion to San Hipolito is well maintained---very good.
Started on the salt flat road at San Hipolito and left it too soon as we did not know where it would come out. The main road was major washboard to
La Bocana.
Salt flat road from La Bocana to Punta Abreojos, very smooth.
We were just back down there, did not do that road again this time, but KurtG did it on his motocycle. We suggested that he stay on the salt flat
after San Hipolito so he knows about that part.
It is one beautiful place, but we were not pulling a trailer.
Also, on the way out to Campo Rene and Abreojos from the main road, you will encounter some rough areas, especially where they are working on
continuing the paving.
From Highway 1 to the turn off to Bahia Asuncion, take it slow. It is paved, but there are some areas of nasty potholes and they sneak up on you
quickly.
First part of the road to Asuncion is a little rough---you are diverted on to the side road where they are working on paving the road. After that,
both in March and last week, it was OK----more washboard right before town. And, if you go that way, when the road splits, follow the utility lines.
The other road looks more direct and it does go into town, but it is a roller coaster road.
Yes, on our last visit the wind was there, but we don't mind the wind.
Have a great trip

Yep it's windy allright, but yesterday it was a picture perfect day and I laid on the beach here at our house and even went swimming...gotta love
baja...today the road is being graded...road conditions totally depend on when it's graded but lots of people have come here in RV's and pulling
trailers....just take it slow...hope to see you soon then...

Having just motorcycled from Ascuncion to Abreojos last week I can tell you that it is a lovely strecth of coast but I would not enjoy towing a
trailer there. With a large RV I would suggest going to Asuncion from Vizcaino. As Diane pointed out there is some pretty bad washboard between
Abreojos and where the pavement ends.
