Clue 1.- It has something to do with the picture beeing black & white.

Clue 2.- you can almost see why on the 2 previous pictures if you look at the rear end of the burro.:yawn:

you've got the idea, since the pictures are b&W and the burros are gray, they would not show up very well on the fotographs, so they started painting them white and then added the stripes.
And as it sais on the back of those, "If you don't like the picture, blame the donkey" :tumble:
