Mexico Beds True or False??

Ok, I was at Costco Mexicali looking for a king bed and was so happy to find that they had them. I met a young man who spoke wonderful english and he told me something that I want to verify. He told me that a Mexican King bed is actually like a US Queen bed and a Queen bed is the same as a US double bed. Is this true????

My mexican king sized bed, that I bought at WalMart in Mexicali) is 1.9 meters (6.23 feet) by 2.0 meters (6.56 feet) The dimensions are printed on the label stuck to the mattress. I have no idea what an american king sized bed is..

I hope this helps you out.

King sized...76" wide, 80" long I believe you will find correct.

We bought a king size bed in La Paz. It's an excellent bed but our regular king size sheets didn't fit, so we bought California king size sheets and they don't fit either. It's a great bed with a queer size.

Bob is correct,

Wow Bob !! , I'm really impressed you got all the sizes correct. Mexico uses the same spring units/dimensions that we use here in the states.

Most of the mattresses that my customers dispose of do get recycled in Mexico. They are picked up in our lot by 3 different individuals that have mattress rebuilding facilities in Mexico.

Normally when a mattress is old and tired, the only thing that is Really worn out is the upholstery. Spring units very seldom wear out and are recovered to look like new. (At the very least, the good guys change ALL the upholstery.

The Not so good guys......well, they just fill in the body impression and then put a new outer cover on. Ewwww.... you should see what 20 years of accumulated use does.

What we do in Asuncion with old matresses is pull em behind the trucks when we go to San Roque to "grade" the road...works really well! When I first started going to San Roque I wondered why there were always bits and pieces of old matresses scattered all over the road??? Now I know! True, ya gotta measure when you buy beds from the bedman who comes here in his red truck. I bought a queen from him that was more like a twin...oops

I was in the retail mattress business for 10 years. I agree with Bedman that Bob got his sizes right. But those sizes are for mattresses sold in the US. The sizes of mattresses sold in Mexico are inconsistent and can vary depending on vendor. For example, the King size set sold at Costco in Mexico, although made by Sealy (maybe) is approximately an Eastern King. I believe the "matrimonio" size sold at Costco is what we would call a double or full size. A queen size bed at Costco is approximately the same size as a queen bed in the US.

If you are bringing sheets from the US to fit your bed purchased in Mexico, all the sheet sizes will work for the corresponding Mexican bed, although the fitted sheets may be a little baggy in places, except for King size sheets. You will need to purchase "Eastern King" sheets. These can be difficult to find in California and are often a special order item.

Sweet dreams!

Bob,

Retirement is coming fast. After 24 years in the business and 9 Grand store openings (now down sized to just this one) I'm ready to call it a day. My wife retired 8 months ago and she's really rubbing it in. I anticipate retirement to arrive within the next 4 months!!

Bedman, you earned it. Retire! If you're concerned there will be nothing to do, think again. I retired, moved to BCN to relax, and I've never been busier. I'm half-seriously thinking about moving back to Sacramento to "retire."
