TOYOTA commercial and test ride....
Since everybody likes to talk Toyota....how about that commercial where they drive up a ramp towing a trailer...the ramp pivots and they drive back
down....heard that was REAL .....
also I went on a test ride Sunday in the TUNDRA....very quiet and smooth....

The TRD package is the only way to go... none of that street racer stuff!
The bed is composite, not plastic... First available in the '05 Tacoma (my truck) and it really is remarkable that it doesn't get damaged (or rust)
and is lighter than steel... I throw tools, equipment, rocks, whatever, in my truck bed and don't worry at all about any damage.
TRD (Toyota Racing Development, ie Ivan Stewart's input)= Locking rear differential, 16" BFG Rugged Trail T/A tires, Bilstein gas shocks... all good
stuff!

Like our 2003 Tundra a lot. Looked at the new ones---too big, too expensive for us. Looks like the Tacoma is catching up in size to the older
Tundras.
Really like the FJ cruiser, except for need to use premium gas. Has anyone tried it with regular gas?

There's something about paying $46,000 for a truck that's a tad obscene to most people.

Hold on you Toyota fans don't lynch me so quick.
My reference to Plastic/Composite beds is in reference to a allmost 400HP $46,000 truck. They are fine in light duty trucks. Usually those 2
numbers (400 HP/$46,000) are associated with Diesel powered 5th wheel towing rigs. I'm not too sure about Composite Beds and 5th wheel towing.
I just wonder who the market buyer for that truck is. Maybe the toy haulers that travel to Glamis on the weekends, or the Gen Xer's hauling a KTM in
the bed.
Don't imagine you will see too many of those in Baja.
I quess you can wait till they add a diesel powerplant and add a utility bed yourself........................$56,0000+? You're getting into mighty
thin air.

New Toyota Tundra is MUY CARO . ... ..este camion is un carro muy caro!!!
New Grand cherokee will run on biodiesel .... I wonder if it will run on regular diesel.. I doubt there are biodiesel stations on the Baja Pninsula..
Americans use more than TWICE the fossil fuels as Europeans..
We should all drive more fuel efficient vehicles and then walk or ride burros the last miles next time we go to Tinaja de Yubay or some such
destination requiring sure traction
We need to use our legs before we lose the complete use of them... Apologies to those no longer ambulatory

Yeah, well, many of the countries in Europe are smaller than some of our states. Things are more concentrated over there. If their countries were as
large as ours, they'd have already rioted over the 7.00/gallon gasoline that they have.
Also, very few countries in Europe have their own oil industry. That saves us a few bucks.
Plus, many countries dont have the level of employment nor the percentage of people employed full time that we do. People with jobs need to get to
work. People who hang at streetside cafes in the Rues of France can walk.
It's really not an apples to apples comparison.

I've heard that the Tacoma was midsized to make room for a new small Toyota mini-pickup.

I would be interested in a Toyota mini 4X4 trd if one existed...

Americans could still be just as productive and, enjoy life and all if they drove more efficiently and carpooled, etc...
Eventually, it will come down to what is in the interest of national security.

Good point, Woody.....
Imagine, 100 yrs ago, if a group of pirates had kidnapped 15 Brit sailors and marines.... Do you think the Foreign Minister would be saying "Oh, this
is a very serious situation!" -
Or would half the Royal Navy be on the way?
Maybe they are.
(whoops, wrong forum!) back on topic.
Boy, I wish I could get a Toyota diesel - those 2.4TDs they sold in the 80's were killer!
BTW, anything that will run on Biodiesel will do fine on petro D2 - it'll just smell bad!

Yeah Well !!!!!......Well,and Well!!!!!.......Hey Hook"......Go hang in some cafe in the Rues and get a job and start doing some walking..... You
might find it fun. People have to at some point start accecpting personal responsibilitys for just what this world is turning into enviromentaly. The
way its going now, you better start getting in shape and "know where you are walking" because the fuel supplys are getting very expensive!! Steve in
ORO VALLEY was making a good point. Go to France and get re-edjucated. Life is not all about sitting on freeways going nowhere with a half empty gas
tank. Think about it.

I am going to stand by Hook on this one. If it wasn't for these gas guzzling United States, France would be speaking German... TWICE. Since we saved
their sorry butts in both World Wars.
They have little to no respect for us despite the tens of thousands of American boys who gave the ultimate sacrifice to give them their freedom back
from the Germans. They continue to import oil from hostile counrties and test nuclear bombs ABOVE GROUND in the South Pacific.
France, educate us? No thanks!

From Wikipedia:
"After an American victory at Saratoga in 1777, France, with Spain and the Netherlands as its allies, entered the war against Britain. French
involvement proved decisive, with a French naval victory in the Chesapeake leading to the surrender of a British army at Yorktown in 1781."
We owed them for that one.
A new mini Toyota might just work okay in Baja--I drove my four banger for 14 years down there then at 225K gave it to my worker as a going away
present...he's put another 25K on it--no ay problemas.

I think gas is still a pretty good bargain for what it allows you to do. Do I want to pay $3 a gal, no I'd prefer 25 cents a gal. But that day is gone
as is the 25 cent pack of smokes and 5 cent cokes. If you drive 15,000 miles a year and get 15 miles per gallon, at $3 a gal that's $3,000 your
spending a year, $250/mo. The average family spends more that that on housing, gas and electric to heat and cool the house. If you have kids your food
bill is more and if you don't have kids your food is still more if you include your beer. If your leasing or still paying for your vehicle it's more.
Your medical bills and medical insurance for you and your family are more. I know there are some of you that are retired living in Baja where your
cost of living is low, but just think, your already living the good life and don't need to drive so your not paying much for gas anyway.
