Just Returned

Just got back from 2 months in Baja. Highway 1 was generally under repair in many places in Baja Sur. Either a lot of damage from Hurricane John, or maybe they just have a lot of new money available for building bridges. They are building big bridges in the places where washouts are most common, like south of Loreto, and the big aroyos between Los Barilles and San Jose del Cabo. The roads in between were in good shape but there were lots of slowdowns where men were working.

As soon as I crossed in to Baja Norte, all the construction stopped, and the road was the same old potholed pavement it was on my trip down. Norte dosn't seem to have the same money to fix its roads as Sur.

I personally was impressed by the amount of work being done as compared to past years. Lot's of bridges !

I would assume that these are projects that were started or funded under Fox ? The new guy is talking tourism and seems to be supporting the efforts so far.
It will be a new Baja, again, soon.
