How long before photos are deleted?
I didn't know which forum to post this.
I did a search looking for a particular set of photos showing the same Sea of Cortez coastal scene but one during semana santa and the other not, but
I could not find them. Perhaps rather than delete old photos completely, it could be possible for a moderator to shrink them down really small so that
we can still see them? I don't know what all is involved to do such a thing, so please forgive me if I am unwittingly asking for the moon.

Pack - not sure exactly what you're saying here about what you were searching for and didn't find.

Photos are not being deleted. There are however a lot of photos that I haven't put back up after moving the forums to a new server in September.
Long story. I'll get 'em back up. "Mañana." Those posts are simply missing the old photos until I get them back up. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If anything, I regret that more people don't attach their photos - as I know that (for the most part) they won't continue to have those photos
available online - but this site should remain available for still some time to come (10 years thus far for the site - 5 years for the present
forums). Having them attached here is probably going to be one of the more reliable ways to have things available over the long-term. I hope anyway.

Actually, asking for the moon might be easier.
Many photos lost their place when Doug switched servers. He says he has them but imagine the task of reinstalling them! One saving grace are remote
server hosted photos. That really is the best way to store and preserve your stuff. That way you have size and format choices and they are securely
stored.
I would like to see a useable list of BajaNomad .jpgs stored on the servers they use. Since they are free to viewers anyway I see no reason they
could not be made available to users. Some folks have contributed many files and it would be nice if they were able to retrieve or share these
openly rather than be stuck on some server providing no service or use other than take up space. JMHO

I gave up on photos a long time ago. it is a big hassle to get them on here and then they all disappear one day. I wish I could paint a picture with
words like Osprey and Mike H and a few others on here, that would be the best way.

Yes, Larry, this is correct. I sell some of my photos in higher resolution than posted on this board and therefore did not want my sunrise/sunset
image made into a postcard for 'easy' download, even though it is only a 50k image.
It is my understanding that the photos I post on Nomads are my property... and also become the property of Doug Means by virtue of my posting them on
his website. Generally I'm happy to have folks download my images for personal use on their home computers... but they do need to get my permission
to do so.

Please straighten me out. I have searched the web looking for a real answer.
Only I can't find one.
On this site it clearly states;

This statement is confusing. Does this include ALL posts and photos. Then would be liable in theory for all the stolen and reposted pics , quotes
etc.? Hmmmmm??

representatives against, any claim arising from any material that you post or transmit."
and

I can say that after researching this subject, the only way you can be safe is to:
1) Not post any photos you fear will be copied. 2) Without copyrighting your material it (generally) becomes public domain like it or not.
Bottom line is; good luck controlling your uploads in a pubic forum.
BTW, how can you know who has copied your work? What would you do if they did? If you post pics for all to see, why would you think others would not
download w/o permission?
Are you not "giving" permission to the forum when you post a photo??
I would suggest a permanent footnote Natalie. One that states your stingy position.

Actually, Sharksy, it's not my "stingy" position... it's my legal position. Steve and I have a photography business. I'm sure you understand
"business".
The photo from Tucker was given to me as a gift, to use in whatever way I pleased... I used the term "borrowed" to indicate I had not taken the photo
myself.
FWIW... our high resolution photos have a blind copyright imprinted on each photo. Should we see that photo posted/used by someone without our
permission, it's very easy to make that copyright info show up in order to determine our legal rights.
Quite a few Nomads have asked my permission before downloading a photo for their personal use... and I've most always said yes. Very often I offer
them a copy in a higher resolution - one of the benefits of asking first.

Well, I guess that in a business atmosphere it would be prudent to prevent copy. But you kind of set yourself up when you put conditions on photos
posted in a public forum. I can't remember anyone else who does this on the Nomads.
So how are all the people who view and otherwise upload your hosted pics to understand that you could go after them legally even if they had no clue
as to your business and the fact they may be copyrighted?
That's why I think you should disclose this in plain view.
I'm still confused as to what constitutes an "unappropriate" or "unlawful" download. Seems like a good percent of Nomads constantly "borrow" or
repost files from other sources w/o permission.
Are you familiar with the term "open source"? Can you imagine all the frustration and how boring this forum would be if we had to "ask permission"
from contributers and sources for our conversations?
If people start selling our contributions then of course, that's business. But here?

My basis lies in the fact that when a file is posted w/o a copyright who or what is to say that that file is your own original property and how
could/would you prove it. Especially if it were reposted thousands of times on the net.
