Mulege
We will be flying from Campo El Vergel to Mulege on Friday to spend the weekend. I would appreciate input on accomodations, points of interest, and
restaurants. Thanks, Rob

The former territorial prison has been turned into a museum. Our own Nomad, 'Lindsay' (formerly with Discover Baja), has helped much with that
project.
The mission, Santa Rosalia de Mulege, is on the opposite side of the river.
Even though Jens has passed away, his web site still offers good information on Mulege http://www.baja-web.com which was his favorite Baja home , I believe. Baja Quest also has a good Mulege section: http://www.bajaquest.com
The Hotel Serenidad just celebrated their 40th year in Mulege: http://community-2.webtv.net/Boojum1/serenidad

If your are flying into Mulege you will probably arrive at the landing strip near the Serenidad. The Serenidad also has probably the best restaurant
in Mulege. Also high on the list are the Equipalis in the center of town and El Patron at the Sea of Cortez on the road to the lighthouse on the
North side of the river. As for points of interest, in addition to the old prison and the mission I would recommend the agricultural valley in the
river valley west of the carretera. There are now tree ripe grapefruit to be had for about a dime apiece, oranges, tangerines and fields of garlic as
well as humdreds of untended date palms.

Go fishing - ask around at the bar in Serinadad for a boat; take a pictograph tour; rent a kayak and paddle north to the southern end of the bay of
Chivato - good snorkeling. If you have time, take a local bus north to San Ignacio. At the La Pinta, ask about transportation to see the whales at
Bahia San Ignacio. Stay overnight at Rice & Beans.

All of the above is right on the money but whenever I am in Mulege, I never miss going out on the beach on the north side of the river and having
shrimp tacos at Almaja's. Sitting in the sand at the edge of the Sea of Cortez with a Pacifico and shrimp taco in your hand is about as good as it
gets. Saturday night c-ckfights in the plaza in Mulege can be fun if you don't mind a little blood and feathers.

All of the above plus, guided tours to the cave paintings. If you get the chance a trip out to punta chivato is always worth your time, or head down
to santispac on concepcion bay and have a drink and or, something to eat at Rays.

Mulege
Capt. Mike, We are flying to Mulege with our friends Rick and Joanie Bell in their Skymaster (Double Duck). Strip @ El Vergel is comparable to most in
Baja such as Gonzaga, mostly tough on props. I don't know the details on maintenance or licence but I will inquire. Thanks to all for your input. Rob

thx Rob, sounds like fun in a "mix master"
any properties avail at el vergel? i know more than one looking - pilots.
Try El Candil for dinner in mulege accross the square Zocalo. Saul is the owner and there most nights. tell him El Grande Piloto capitan Miguel de
Samaritanos sent you, he'll probably pad the bill! just kidding.... also Saul's palapa just 1/4 mile south of the serenidad turn off, Manuel is there
, peach of a guy. then its Ray's place down at santispac, get a cab at the serenidad desk.

El Vergel properties
Capt. Mike, there are a few homes available in the vicinity of El Vergel. We live 3 km north @ Santa Maria in a home that we purchased 2 years ago.
The people living in the south campos are a great community. Living on the beach is'nt bad either. If you decide to take a look, let me know and I can
provide ground transport and introduce you to the locals. Rob

SF 250
Yes we will be here for the race. Herbst is a client of my next door neighbor and after they pre ran the 1000 we had dinner with Jerry, Tim and Ed.
Great guys and down to earth. We enjoy the 250 the most because it starts and ends here. Are you coming for the race?

Mulege Mission
The Jesuits established Santa Rosalia de Mulege in 1705. The church and other buildings date to the 1760s. It is one of the more interesting of the
stone missions in Baja California
