We use to see this a lot on the beaches around Punta Chivato when the shrimpers where in. I think they have pretty much totaled the area so not as many as in the past. Many times when this happened the small smooth puffers would wash in with them. Those small ones are extremely poisonous and will kill any dog the munches on them. Please notify pet owners of this. We don't know of anything that will save a dog from this poison.

I am sure that the Japenese make some sort of killer soup out of these. I am surprised you have not put them on the menue.

Ken

Gad those guys are odd looking. They possess some not-so-fishy looks. Great shot. Love the lips. They have incredibly strong jaws. Strange to see them all times of the year on shores around BOC. They fall prey to a host of problems. Weather takes out many. Draggers surely do damage. It just seems wierd that these poor guys end up as smiling stiffs much more than any other fish. Or maybe that because they are horny, it keeps them intact and uneaten and they end up on shore. Hmmmm??:?:

The Japanese love pufferfish - called fugu -$500 a plate - it contains tetradodoxin - the most potent chemical produced by an animal known to cause death - 4 minutes or less - resturants post a favorite poem - loosly translated (not a haiku) "Those who eat fugu are stupid, but those who do not eat fugu are also stupid" - I'll stick to yellowtail..
