Estero Beach 1952
We've gone through a bunch of old slides from Dern's family, taken in and around the Estero Beach - Ensenada area that date from 1952 - 56. We had
them scanned onto a disc and would like to share some of them with the board. There are a few scenery shots that we don't recognize, so if anyone
would like to chime in that would be great. We are also going to print a few out to show to Sr. Pabloff of the Punta Banda area to see if he can point
out a few of the locations to us or maybe recognize the local families in the photos.

The first photos we'll share are of a family that we believed lived on Punta Banda sandspit. Dern's Great Grampa Charlie is holding the lobsters. In
the background you can see Ramajal and the hills are the backdrop for the Cantu / Campo La Jolla area. Our guess is they got the lobsters right out of
the estero.

More shots from the sandspit area. Our guess is this is roughly where Fisher Camp is now, looking south. The present road into Campo La Jolla hugs
that mountain. Back in the day, cars would have to drive the beach at low tide to go that direction.

Estero Beach Campground 52 - 53
These clickable thumbnails are of the campground at Estero Beach. The old cars, shiny trailers, hanging lightbulbs from the powerlines are classics.

Fishing out of Ensenada
Three of these shots were taken from the fishing boat. One of them is the blowhole at La Bufadora before anything was there. The slide is much better
than the photo came out, as it was cropped for the screen. The other two may be of the Ensenada shoreline.

After viewing these photos I'm giving second thought to my packing for our next trip. They sure knew how to dress, even while in Baja!

Paulina, Those are some really awesome pics.I like the one of the little boy with hat inside the broken down car. My grandfather first went to Estero
in the 50's and introduced us to it, soon after we had a permanent trailer/spot where the restaurant is now, right on the front.The beach came right
up to the wall then which used to be rocks and telephone poles.Mom and Dad went to Punta Banda weekly or more to buy lobster, but they had a
"mandatory" law that they had to play Dominos with the fishermen first! Lobster were about a buck a peice then. Such wonderful memories! That bay was
water-skiing heaven too, and the ski ramp in the back bay was a blast! My Mom was a fisher woman back then and loved to sit on the point of the
peninsula and catch sharks all day!(and release, even back then!) I can hardly wait for my Dad to see your pics! Thank you for taking me back in a
most magical time of my life (actually a little later, born in 51).Now I have to pull some pics out of Mom and Dads archives and put them on a disk so
I can share also.! Thank you again!!! Sally

Oh my gosh! I just realized that the green and white trailer with the ford station wagon in front was our neighbor! We were right across the street,
facing it!!!

OMG---those awful, awful bathing caps---they were so terrible and they were never comfortable!
That is one thing from the good ole days, I sure don't miss.
Looking forward to seeing more!
