Friday the 13th in Baja?
I'm wondering if a Friday the 13th is a significant day in Baja culture. Zoe

Sounds like you are already living on Baja time if you've lost track of days of the week!

I am practicing for my upcoming trip today. Just having a few "COLD" beers by the pool and will light the BBQ about 9 tonight. I hope these two
activities won't get me in any trouble on Friday the 13th.

Lucky 13
Back in the early 80s, I was told by a Spanish Instructor who had graduated from University in Mexico City, married a Mexican woman and was in the
process of moving to Mexico permanently, that 13 was considered a lucky number in the culture. It's the only thing I've ever heard on the subject.
There is another number, however, which is considered unlucky. I don't remember what it was, but on one occasion when I was paying for some
construction work, my landlord crossed out that number and rounded it down, saying that was a bad number. It wasn't 666.
Yesterday (which was an unlucky one), a neighbor told me about the Two Blondes who were standing on opposite sides of a busy road. The one Blonde
yelled to the other "How can I get to the other side" ? The other Blonde replied "But, you already are".

Two blondes were walking across the street...
The first noticed a compact on the sidewalk and leaned down to pick it up.
She opened it, looked in the mirror, and says,
"Hmmm, this person looks familiar."
The other blonde says, "Let me look."
The first blonde hands her the compact.
The second blonde looks into the mirror then turns to the first blonde….. "You dummy – THAT”S ME!!!"

Actualy not friday the 13th but un México it is Tuesday the 13th or as we call it "Martes 13". 13 beeing the most unlucky number in our culture and
666 the scariest because of you know who.
There is a very popular saying used when you should not embark on any type of enterprize or start something new and it goes "En Martes ni te cases ni
te embarques" and another adds to it "ni de tu familia te apartes" another one is "El martes ni tu casa mudes, ni tu hija cases, ni tu ropa tejas",in
otherwords do nothing of great significance.
As for other numbers we use is 3 "A la tercera la vencida" meaning the third try is the good one or the number 5 "No hay quinto malo" meaning no fifth
can be bad. And 21 de la suerte.
saludos

I knew that martes 13 was bad luck in Mexcio. So martes 21 is good luck?
And isnt that interesting. We say third time is a charm. But then we also say three strikes and you are out.

I guess that means that if you are from here or there, and live there or here, you need to watch out for both Friday and Tuesday the 13th! I knew
about Tuesday, the 13th, but had never heard of the 21st being good luck! That's good to know! But then, I'm not really superstitious...I just don't
walk under ladders because they might fall on you, and I don't break mirrors because it just makes a mess, and I always say bread and butter when
walking with someone if we each walk around an object on a different side, I'm sure there is a good reason!!!!

Hmmm. The Loreto immigration office was closed when we stopped by on the 13th. I thought maybe it was a holiday. More likely, they were still playing
pool up at Del Borracho.

I know the Maya calendars make the number 13 very lucky. I was just thinking that nothing bad happened at my house yesterday when the Propane truck
pulled up. I bought a full tank yesterday, as usual, and it was still sitting by my gate. The regular driver asked "que paso" -- then he leaned
over, moved the tank with one hand -- it was empty. A bogus truck with bandito drivers from La Paz is hitting all the little villages, selling empty
tanks and pocketing the 444 pesos each. Pretty slick, pretty easy gig for them too because all they really have to do is borrow/steal a truck loaded
with empty tanks, later return the truck still loaded with other empty tanks. I obviously have no Maya blood, not one cell.
