No food inspection at the border... as long as it is for your personal use, there is no restriction usually... However, in the past, there has been produce inspection just south of Rosarito and Beef confiscation at the state border near Guerrero Negro (mad cow scare).

There is a fruit and vegetable inspection at Baja Sur (Guerrero Negro) border. Many restrictions, although I don't recall specifics (both ways). Bring fresh for the amount of time you are in Baja Norte, and then purchase additional once in Baja Sur. Dried, canned fruit and vege as a backup.

I have found that a couple of Starbucks Frapaccinos will usually get you through any inspection. Not many of these available in the desert. I always keep a couple of cold ones in the cooler. Has worked wonders for me.

Last month they just waved us through at Guerrero Negro.
Last year they hit us hard at Rosarito, but last month they were no where to be seen.
Go Figure!!
