More permit questions

I didn't want to hijack the Mexicali FMT thread anymore than I already had so I started this new thread for general permit info.

More Questions:

Does a kayak or small inflatable require the boat permit for fishing?

Do I need a fishing license to shore fish? I heard you didn't.

Do I need a fishing license to dig clams?

Do I need anything special for a dirtbike? (IT490 or WR250 Yamahas)

Can you still ride bikes like these on the street down there and not get busted provided they are not too loud?

What should I declare entering Mexico? Laptop maybe?.

Where would I go in Mexicali or Tecate to get any or all of the required permits above? I'll be leaving from El Centro and want to avoid TJ at all cost if I can.

Thanks in advance. I hope I'm not being too anal about this permit thing but in the past when I used to go down there with my dad to hunt things always went smoothly when all ducks were in a row and things could go go bad real quick if they weren't.

If you fish out of it, it needs a permit.
No license to shore fish.
You cannot dig clams unless you are mexican.
Gas; and license/lights/signals,etc if you ride on the road.
Only in small towns where they may shoot you for the noise.
Only declare newer items you plan to leave there.
FMT's are available at the tecate crossing; all else is best gotten from an online travel club before you go.
.
(Of course, I have broken all of these rules at one time or another ! )

Boat fishing permits

You do need a permit for a kayak or inflatable.

Many license outlets, in the US and Mexico, will not sell you a boat fishing permit without registration or title documents for your boat.

Mexico has a Conapesca office in San Diego that will sell you a permit for small craft that have no documentation.

I live in Loreto but this year had to renew my kayak permit in San Diego. I'd stop there for permits before heading south.

You should be able to get your permits through the mail, thereby avoiding a trip to SD and TJ.

Technically I believe Diver is right about the motorcycle rules, but if you have ever been to baja for an off road race you see all sorts of motorcycles without lights turnsignals ect. I have been told that if you have on a helmet and gloves you should be OK with the law. That is unless you do something to bring unwanted attention to yourself, then all bets are off. Make sure you carry the paperwork for your bikes. This will ensure that they will not impound it from you.
