Baja - Past & Present
I have been having some fun lately with old Baja photos. It is interesting to see the changes of certain locales over the years...and sometimes the
lack of change, too.
Here is an early photo of a cluster of homes known as Posada in Bahia de Conception, Baja Sur. Note all the palapa roofs used then...with dire
consequences later on...a huge fire destroyed many dwellings.

Past
This was taken from Marlena's Tienda on the highway next to Posada about 1978. Shows a caravan of about 100 Airstreamers having fun traveling
together. (This was back when the big scare was ..'those caravans will suck up all the groceries, fuel, beer, etc.'...so whenever people heard one
was coming down the Baja Road, they would rush to town to stock up on supplies before the invasion.
There was a little truth to this urban legend...I can recall a particular shortage of Pacifico coinciding with this caravan's arrival.

This present day photo shows Roy's Ecomundo resort in the same spot. The business is now closed and is for sale. Wonder what will be there next
year?

Pompano, in addition to your writing, your photos are quite a resource for this board. It's like we have our own Baja Sur corespondent. I like how you
quickly post photos of current conditions to accompany posts - even on threads started by other people. Keep it up - it's great.

Pompano, been out of reach for a few weeks (in Brazil) and this thread is fantastic. Keep it coming! What a difference 30 years makes!

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

Pompano, could you date the "Before" Posada photo?
Very interesting. My house didn't exist in the before photo, but I can clearly see its location. Good work.

Subastador...I think I took that photo around 1978-79. The place sure has changed since Herman Morante aka, Herman 'Senior'. was there.

Bahia Concepcion
What a fabulous place!
I first laid eyes on it back in 1978 and it's just as stunning now as it was back then.

Like all of us on Baja Nomads and Mission San Ignacio; I have to admit, gosh, we're getting better with the years!
The old girl looks like she could go another 500 years with no problema!
Thank you for the "Before and Today" photos... they're great!
